  Mumbai\nIn this talk I will describe what I mean by the  theory of quant
 um gravity\,  motivate the search for this theory\, and outline the progr
 ess made in this search.\nIn particular I will explain that the so-called 
 AdS/CFT correspondence\nof String theory leads to the complete (nonperturb
 ative)  construction of  a set of `toy models' of quantum gravity.\nI wi
 ll describe these theories and outline some of the lessons learnt from the
 ir study.\n
