DESCRIPTION:Prof. Mathias Winterhalter\, Jacobs University Bremen/Germany\
nThe permeation of water soluble molecules (antibiotics\, polypeptides\, s
ugar\,...) across cell membranes is controlled by channel-forming proteins
and\, in particular\, the channel surface determines the selectivity. An
adequate method to study properties of these channels is electrophysiology
. Analysing the ion current fluctuations and compare the data with all ato
m modelling allows to identify for example the rate limiting interaction w
 ith respect to antibiotic influx.
