 bstract:\nArchitecture and urbanism were traditionally based on climate\, 
 comfort and health\, as we can read in treatises of Vitruvius\, Palladio o
 r Alberti\, where exposure to wind and sun\, variations in temperature and
  humidity influenced the shapes of cities and buildings. These fundamental
  causes of urban planning and buildings were ignored in the second half of
  the 20th century thanks to the enormous use of fossil energy by heating a
 nd air conditioning systems\, pumps and refrigerators\, that today cause t
 he greenhouse effect and global warming. Sustainability and fight against 
 climate change force the architects and urban designers to take back serio
 usly the climatic issue in order to base their design on more consideratio
 n to the local climatic context and energy resources. Faced with the clima
 tic challenge of the 21st century\, we propose to reset our discipline on 
 its intrinsic climatic qualities\, where air\, light\, heat or humidity ar
 e recognized are real materials of building\; convection\, thermal conduct
 ion\, evaporation\, emissivity\, or effusivity are becoming design tools f
 or composing architecture and cities\, and through materialism dialectic\,
  are able to revolutionize esthetic and social values.\n\n\nShort bio:\nPh
 ilippe Rahm (1967) is a swiss architect (M.Arch EPFL\, Ecole Polytechnique
  Fédérale de Lausanne\, 1993 and Ph.D. University of Paris-Saclay\, 2019
 )\, principal in the office of “Philippe Rahm architectes”\, based in 
 Paris\, France. His work\, which grounds architecture in his environmental
  and climatic field\, has received an international audience in the contex
 t of sustainability. His recent work includes the first prize for the Fari
 ni and San Cristoforo urban masterplans competition (60 ha) in Milan in 20
 19\, the 70 hectares Central Park in Taichung\, Taiwan\, completed in Sept
 ember 2020\, the ongoing Agora of the French National Radio in Paris\, the
  8000 m2 new Head Office building of the company “Bureau Vallée” next
  to Paris and the competition for the new Park for the Esplanade of La Dé
 fense (6\,3 hectares)\, France. He has held professorships at GSD Harvard 
 University\, Columbia\, Cornell or Princeton Universities. He is a tenured
  associate professor at the National Superior School of Architecture in Ve
 rsailles\, France (ENSA-V). His work has been exhibited widely such at the
  Venice\, Chicago or Seoul Architecture Biennales. In 2020\, Dr. Rahm is p
 ublishing the books « Arquitectura meteorológica »\, in Mexico\, “Éc
 rits climatiques” and “Histoire Naturelle de l’Architecture” in Fr
 ance.
