CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim:  CURE funds research that has the potential to truly tra
nsform and save lives. This investigator-initiated grant program seeks to
push the envelope and accelerate promising research leading to disease-mod
ifying breakthroughs for people living with epilepsy. CURE Epilepsy priori
tizes highly innovative\, risky\, paradigm-shifting projects that address
CURE Epilepsy’s mission to cure epilepsy\, affirming our core belief tha
t the only acceptable final goal is “no seizures\, no side-effects.”\n
\nThe following priority areas reflect CURE Epilepsy’s focus on advances
that have the potential to truly transform and save lives. Prevention\, d
isease modification and elimination are critical goals and consistent with
our mission.\n\n	Transformative research to enhance our understanding of
the cellular\, molecular\, genetic and systems-level mechanisms that lead
to any of the epilepsies\, facilitating the continued investigation of dis
ease-modifying or preventative strategies\n	Innovative approaches that can
prevent\, modify and/or arrest the development of acquired epilepsy. Exam
ples include epilepsy that develops after stroke\, tumor\, traumatic brain
injury or infection\, including febrile infection-related epilepsy syndro
me (FIRES) as well new-onset refractory status-epilepticus (NORSE)\n	Resea
rch that will inform the development of novel therapies to prevent onset o
r halt the progression of the severe pediatric epilepsies\n	Research focus
ed on new\, effective treatments for the >30% of the epilepsy population w
ho are pharmacoresistant\n	Novel research that furthers our understanding
of the causes and ultimate elimination of SUDEP\n	Translational\, clinical
\, and clinically informed basic research that will facilitate understandi
ng of the cellular-\, molecular-\, and systems-level mechanisms that under
lie the relationships between sleep and epilepsy\n\n\nFunding:
   max. $250\,000\n\nDuration:      2 years\n\nEligibility: This award
is available to both established and early career investigators. Postdoct
oral fellows may not apply for this award.\n\nHow to Apply: All applicants
must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI). The LOI should clearly and succinct
ly outline the specific aims and include a brief description of the justif
ication and research plan according to the guidelines in the RFA. LOIs and
full proposals (by invitation) must be submitted through proposalCENTRAL.
To begin an application\, applicants will need to create a professional p
rofile\, if one does not already exist. If EPFL will serve as your host in
stitution\, please use the following institution name in proposalCENTRAL:
Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL. After the LOI has been ev
aluated\, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal. A
t this stage\, a signature from an institutional representative will be re
quired\; for this\, please contact the Research Office.\n\nDeadline\, Lett
 er of Intent: 11-January-2021 (9:00 PM ET)\n\nFurther information\n\n\n	Mo
re information about the program is available here\n	The Request for Appli
cations (RFA) can be found here\n	The application portal can be found here
