DESCRIPTION:Aim: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and its Grand Challen
 ges partners established Grand Challenges to focus attention and effort on
  major global challenges\, and to enable researchers to collaborate and ad
 dress these in fast\, innovative ways.  ICODA – the International COVID
 -19 Data Alliance – is partnering with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundati
 on’s Grand Challenges programme to pilot the Grand Challenges ICODA COVI
 D-19 Data Science initiative\, supported by the COVID-19 Therapeutics Acce
 lerator.  This initiative seeks to support projects that harness the powe
 r of health data in a safe and trusted way to respond to the current COVID
 -19 pandemic and have impact\, as well as to enhance global health data re
 sponses to health challenges of the future.\n\nThis pilot initiative is co
 ordinated by ICODA and is an open funding call that seeks to identify and 
 support research studies using health data to address major COVID-19 resea
 rch questions.  It also seeks to involve patients and wider communities i
 n both study design and governance.  While this is a global call\, priori
 ty will be given to research proposals involving researchers from lower an
 d middle-income countries (LMICs). The pilot initiative will be followed b
 y a larger Request for Proposals to be launched late in 2021\, and run by 
 global Grand Challenges partners.\n\nSee the Request for Proposals for mor
 e specifications on funding priorities.\n\nFunding: max. $100\,000\n\nDura
 tion: 6-12 months\n\nEligibility: Applications are invited from researcher
 s working in healthcare\, academia\, industry or research foundations\, an
 d will be welcomed from any geography\, with priority placed on proposals 
 that involve researchers from LMICs.\n\nHow to Apply: Submission is a two-
 step process: A short application is submitted first\, then selected appli
 cants will be invited in late January to submit a full proposal (due mid-F
 ebruary). Initial short applicants can be submitted here. Applicants invit
 ed to submit a full proposal must also submit a letter from their host ins
