DESCRIPTION:Aim:  Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions\, acr
 oss the spectrum and throughout the life span\, for the needs of individua
 ls with autism and their families. Autism Speaks invites applications from
  predoctoral students interested in pursuing careers in autism research. T
 he fellows will work directly with mentors who are leading scientists in a
 utism-related research. This program supports the growth of a promising ca
 dre of early career scientists who will make autism research their chosen 
 field. The primary purpose of the predoctoral fellowship is to provide hig
 hly qualified candidates with exceptional research training opportunities 
 broadly related to the study of autism spectrum disorder(ASD).\n\nAreas of
  research Autism Speaks is most interested in funding include:\n\n	Pre-cli
 nical intervention studies\, including gene and RNA editing\n	Immunology/i
 nflammation\n	Medical comorbidities (particularly seizures and GI problems
 /microbiome) with an emphasis on intervention studies\n	Adult transition a
 nd lifespan development\n	Challenging behavior\n	Cognitively disabled and/
 or non-or minimally verbal\n	Innovative implementation of technology to en
 hance reach and impact of services with an emphasis on diagnosis and inter
 vention in low resource settings\, especially among ethnic minority\, rura
 l and other marginalized populations\n	Inclusion of individuals from low-r
 esource communities (For research that involves human subjects\, Autism Sp
 eaks will prioritize study designs that include and better reflect the div
 ersity of the community that we serve.)\n\n\nFunding:        $37\,00
 0 / year\n\nDuration:      2 years\n\nEligibility: The candidate must 
 be an enrolled student in a program leading to a research doctorate (such 
 as a Ph.D. or Sc.D.) or a combined degree such as an M.D./Ph.D.\, in an ac
 ademic department of an accredited university or health/medical institutio
 n. The candidate must have two or more years remaining in their program. T
 he selected predoctoral fellow must spend at least 80% of his/her professi
 onal time engaged exclusively in their Autism Speaks’ autism research-re
 lated activities for the duration of the award and cannot simultaneously h
 old another fellowship award during the support period. International appl
 ications are encouraged. Prior to application\, predoctoral candidates mus
 t have an identified mentor for their fellowship. Mentors must have a Ph.D
 . and/or an M.D. or equivalent degree and be a scientific investigator wit
 h an academic or research institutional appointment (tenured\, tenure-trac
 k or equivalent position).\n\nHow to Apply: The two-stage application proc
 ess begins with a Letter of Intent (LOI). An outline for the LOI is given 
 in the Request for Applications\, and the completed LOI can be submitted o
 n the application platform. At the LOI stage\, it is necessary to list an 
 institutional Responsible Official\; for assistance\, please contact the R
 esearch Office. LOI Decisions will be returned by early February\, and sel
 ected applicants will then be invited to submit a full proposal. At this s
 econd stage\, the applicant should upload required elements as stated in t
 he Request for Applications\; note that the final submission must be done 
 by the Responsible Official\, and not by the applicant. For this step\, yo
