 y of Jerusalem\nAbstract:\nBy combining the theory of incompatible elastic
  sheets with chemical analysis we introduce a new paradigm for the modelin
 g and analysis of nano-scale self-assembled solid sheets. Analysis of mole
 cular interactions provides inputs to the elastic model\, which determines
  the supramolecular structure and its thermal fluctuations.\n\nThe approac
 h is demonstrated in a combined experimental-theoretical study of nano-sca
 le self-assembled ribbons\, made of lipids and peptides with chiral head g
 roups. We analytically derive quantitative predictions for ribbons configu
 rations and shape fluctuations. These are confirmed experimentally\, revea
 ling unusual mechanics and statistics\, indicating that the shape and mech
 anics of the suprasturactures are governed by geometrical incompatibility.
 \n\nBio:\nEran Sharon is a professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem
 \, conducting experimental studies of different pattern forming systems. I
 n particular\, his research is focused on the mechanical instabilities in 
 residually stressed bodies\, mechanics of growth in plants\, and instabili
 ties in fluids under rotation.
