DESCRIPTION:Prof. Klaus Hellgardt\, Department of Chemical Engineering\, I
mperial College London\nAbstract:\nThe purpose of this seminar is to give
an overview of some of the sustainable and clean energy research themes be
ing pursued at the Reaction Engineering and Catalytic Technology group\, I
mperial College London. Examples will cover solar fuels\, biofuels and cle
an fossil energy. Solar fuels examples will touch on recent work relevant
to the engineering of photo-electrochemical water splitting devices. Biofu
els examples will outline our work on algae based fuels production as well
as the transformation of such biomass into crude. Clean fossil energy wil
l focus on our most recent work in the area of methane pyrolysis.\n\nBio:\
nKlaus Hellgardt (KH) is a Professor of Chemical Engineering in the Depart
ment of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. He is the current
Director of Undergraduate Studies. KH’s research focuses on advanced re
action engineering and applied catalysis\, with specific emphasis on solar
  (bio)fuels\, smart petrofuels engineering\, kinetics\, (electro-) chemica
l and bioreactor modeling\, design and application. He is the head of the
REaCT group (Reaction Engineering and Catalytic Technology). To date\, his
cumulative grant support exceeds £20M. He has published over 150 papers\
, a similar number of conference proceedings\, six book chapters and eight
  patents.
