DESCRIPTION:Dr Junqing Tang\n10:45 – 11:30 – Dr Junqing Tang\nPostdoct
oral Research Associate at University of Cambridge\, UK\n\nEvaluating resi
lience in urban transportation systems for sustainability: A systems-based
Bayesian network model\n\nWe proposed a hierarchical Bayesian network mod
el (BNM) to quantitatively evaluate the resilience of urban transportation
systems. Based on the systemic thinking and sustainability perspective\,
we investigate the long-term resilience of the road transportation systems
in four cities in China from 1998 to 2017\, namely Beijing\, Tianjin\, Sh
anghai\, and Chongqing\, respectively. The model takes into account variou
s factors collected from multi-source data platforms\, involved in stages
 of design\, construction\, operation\, management\, and innovation in road
transportation systems. We test the model with the forward inference\, se
nsitivity analysis\, and backward inference. The result shows that the ove
rall resilience of all four cities' transportation systems is within a mod
erate range with values between 49% to 59%. Although they all have an ever
-increasing economic level\, Beijing and Tianjin demonstrate a clear “V
 ” shape in the long-term transportation resilience\, which indicates a s
trong multidimensional\, dynamic\, and non-linear characteristic in resili
ence-economic coupling effect. Additionally\, the results obtained from th
e sensitivity analysis and backward inference suggest that decision makers
should pay more attention to the capabilities of quickly rebuilding and m
aking changes to cope with future disturbances. As an exploratory study\,
this study clarifies the concepts of long-term multi-dimensional resilienc
e and specific hazard-related resilience and provides an effective decisio
n-support tool for stakeholders when building resilient infrastructure.\n\
n\nShort bio:\nDr. Junqing Tang is a Postdoc Research Associate at the Cen
tre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction at the University of Cambrid
ge. He obtained his Dr. Sc. degree from the Department of Environmental Sy
stems Science at ETH Zurich in 2019. He also holds an MSc. in Transport fr
om Imperial College London & University College London\, UK\, and a First-
Honour BEng. in Architectural Engineering from Cardiff University\, UK. Ju
nqing is a civil engineer by training\, with a research interest in how re
silience and sustainability can be effectively embedded and managed in urb
an critical infrastructure systems. He has a particular interest in quanti
 fying and evaluating resilience through a systems-oriented perspective\, a
nd building decision-support tools for infrastructure adaptation and disru
 ption management.
