CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:MeteoSwiss issues a call for proposals in the framework of GCO
S Switzerland. The Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) is a joint initi
ative of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)\, the Intergovernment
al Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO\, the United Nations Environme
nt Programme (UN Environment) and the International Council for Science (I
SC). The overall goal of GCOS is to ensure the sustained provision of reli
able physical\, chemical and biological observations and data records for
the climate system as a whole – across the atmospheric\, oceanic and ter
restrial domains\, including hydrological and carbon cycles and the cryosp
here.\n\nThis call for proposals focuses on 2 different pillars of the GCO
S Switzerland Strategy 2017-2026:\n\n	Pillar 1: “Enhance and strengthen
the Swiss climate observing system”\n	Pillar 2 : “Promote collaboratio
 n nationally\, regionally and globally”\n\n\nMeteoSwiss herewith calls f
or proposals that address Pillar 1 and/or Pillar 2. Proposals that address
other pillars will also be considered as long as the benefit for the GCOS
Switzerland Strategy and the GCOS Implementation Plan are clearly apparen
t.\n\nWho can apply:\n\n\n	The call for proposals is open to individuals a
ffiliated to a Swiss institution in Switzerland. It primarily addresses in
dividuals that can demonstrate extensive experience in climate system moni
toring and research in Switzerland.\n	Each applicant (=individual) can sub
mit only one proposal per call as PI.\n	Proposals can be submitted in a co
nsortium. Each consortium shall designate one principal investigator (PI)
and a deputy PI.\n	If a consortium includes foreign institutions\, it is i
mperative that the PI is based at a Swiss institution in Switzerland.\n\n\
nFunding: For this call for proposals\, a total indicative budget of 695
’180 CHF is available. It is anticipated that 3-5 projects will be suppo
rted through this call. A significant in-kind contribution is required.\n\
 nDuration: max. 4 years.\n\nDeadline for proposals: 1 February 2021 at 16:
00 CET\n\nFor more information\, please visit the call webpage\, the call
