DESCRIPTION:Velux Stiftung was founded in 1980 by Villum Kann Rasmussen\, 
 a Danish engineer. He developed a novel window construction that could be 
 installed in sloping roofs\, which he named “VELUX” (“Ve” for vent
 ilation\, and “Lux” for light).\n\nThe Velux Stiftung supports basic a
 nd applied research in the fields of:\n\n	daylight\n	healthy ageing\n	opht
 halmology -> New focus in the ophthalmology funding area: addressing biome
 dical knowledge gaps in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). All deta
 ils here.\n\n\n\nProjects should:\n\n	stem from innovative\, out-of-the-bo
 x ideas\,\n	be relevant beyond the borders of a single discipline\,\n	acce
 lerate research by removing bottlenecks\,\n	enable implementation of resea
 rch and\n	promote and/or implement their results inside and outside academ
 ia.\n\n\nExcellent research projects outside the strategic funding areas a
 bove but within the foundation’s legal purpose are not funded or sent to
  peer-review. Please note that the Foundation does not fund research proj
 ects where the main focus lies in health systems / services research\, imp
 lementation research / intervention science\, health economics or communit
 y development.\n\nThe foundation welcomes international and interdisciplin
 ary collaborations.\n\nThe project application needs to establish a convin
 cing argumentation why no sufficient alternative support can be obtained.\
 n\nWho can apply\n\n\n	Both individual researchers and research groups can
  apply.\n	The main applicant (e.g. professor\, group leader) must be a per
 manent employee of a university or other permanent research entity anywher
 e in the world.\n	Non-permanent employees are welcome to apply as co-appli
 cants.\n	For Ophthalmology projects: applicants are invited to apply in co
 nsortia of research groups with at least one partner based in a LMIC.\n\n\
 nDuration: 1-4 years\n\nFunding: approx. CHF 50-100’000 per year coverin
 g\n\n\n	Research staff costs (personnel costs\, doctoral students\, teachi
 ng replacement).\n	Associated research costs (e.g. consumables\, conferenc
 e\, travel\, publication).\n	Equipment costs may be included if duly justi
 fied.\n	Does NOT cover overheads nor social insurances.\n	For Ophthalmolog
 y projects: up to CHF 100’000 per year with at least 50% to be used in L
 MICs.\n\n\nDeadlines: \n\n\n	31 May 2021 for Ophthalmology applications (D
 ecision in November 2021)\n	30 September 2021 for Daylight Research applic
 ations (Decision in March 2022)\n	30 September 2021 for Healthy Ageing app
 lications (Decision in March 2022)\n\n\n\nSubmission procedure\n\n\n	Submi

 CVs (max.3pp. each) and list of publications (up to 10) in a single PDF th
 rough the online submission portal (link will be available here). Potentia
 l reviewers and Data Protection Policy consent of each co-PI must be submi
