DESCRIPTION:SWEET (SWiss Energy research for the Energy Transition) is a f
 unding program owned and managed by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SF
 OE). The purpose of SWEET is to fund transdisciplinary research and innova
 tion activities with a focus on Switzerland’s energy strategy 2050 and t
 hus also on the country’s climate policy goals.\n\nSOUR (SWEET Outside-t
 he-box Rethinking) is a complementary program within the framework of SWEE
 T to specifically promote the exploration of unconventional and alternativ
 e approaches for Switzerland’s energy future and to identify potential g
 ame changers.\n\nThe aim of this SOUR Call is to complement SWEET Call 1-2
 020 “Integration of Renewables into a Sustainable and Resilient Swiss En
 ergy System” with alternative approaches.\n\nSubmitted proposals must fo
 cus on aspects of the Guiding Theme of SWEET Call 1-2020 (see Appendix A) 
 that are outside the mainstream thinking and research directions.\n\n\nWho
  can apply\n\n	Applicant must hold a university degree (MSc or equivalent)
  in a field related to energy research. Applicant needs to demonstrate ade
 quate research experience through either a doctorate degree (PhD) in a rel
 evant field\, or through at least three years of research work as their ma
 in source of income since obtaining their university degree.\n	The applica
 nt must conduct the SOUR project at a Swiss research institution.\n	A SOUR
  application may be submitted by a single applicant only. The applicant ma
 y seek support for the proposed project from partners in the academic or p
 rivate sector.\n	To remove bias\, the applicant’s personal information a
 nd track record will not be evaluated. The project description must thus b
 e submitted fully anonymized.\n\n\n\nFunding & Duration\n\n\n	minimum CHF 
 50’000 and maximum CHF 150’000\n	6-18 months (maximum 24 months if sci
 entifically warranted\, clearly stated and sufficiently well explained in 
 the application)\n\n\nEligible costs\n\n\n	applicant’s salary\;\n	salari
 es of project partners\;\n	direct costs incurred through the use of resear
 ch infrastructure related to the project and third party charges\;\n	costs
  for networking activities and cooperation directly linked to the funded r
 esearch\;\n	field expenses\, material costs\, travel costs\, publication a
 nd other charges.\n	salaries of doctoral students cannot be funded.\n	No o
 verhead can be charged.\n\n\nSubmission\n\n\n	The SOUR application compris
 es two parts: (i) Administrative information and (ii) the Project descript
 ion.\n	SOUR proposals must be prepared in English using the official templ
 ates available on the SWEET webpage.\n\n\nDeadline\n\n\n	Application docum
 ents must be submitted to sweet@bfe.admin.ch no later than 31 March 2021 (
 12 noon CEST).\n\n\n\nLetters of Commitment of Applicants or Cooperation P
 artners\, as well as a Letter of Commitment of the Host Institution are re
