DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
 gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Amyotrophic Lat
 eral Sclerosis (ALS) Research Program Therapeutic Idea Award. supports hyp
 othesis-driven therapeutic development and is designed to promote new idea
 s aimed at drug or treatment discovery that are still in the early stages 
 of development.  Development and/or modification of preclinical model sys
 tems or the application of high-throughput screens to define or assess lea
 d compounds for ALS treatment may also be proposed.  All research project
 s should include a well-formulated\, testable hypothesis based on strong s
 cientific rationale that holds translational potential to improve ALS trea
 tment and/or advance a novel treatment modality.  Preliminary data are no
 t required.  While the inclusion of preliminary data is not prohibited\, 
 the strength of the application should not rely on preliminary data\, but 
 on the innovative approach\n\nThe FY21 ALSRP Therapeutic Idea Award Therap
 eutically Relevant Biomarker Option encourages applicants to include the d
 evelopment of biomarker(s) in parallel with the main proposed Therapeutic 
 Idea Award research effort. Additional funding is being offered for the co
 -development of biomarkers that will enhance the drug development process.

      2 years\n\nEligibility: Applicants from international organizatio
 ns or institutions are eligible to apply\, and there are no citizenship re
 strictions. Applicants must be independent investigators\, but can come fr
 om any academic level.\n\nHow to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted thr
 ough the eBRAP platform. They should contain contact information\, a list 
 of collaborators and key personnel\, a preproposal narrative\, and support
