DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Lung Cancer Res
earch Program (LCRP) Awards. The FY21 LCRP Concept Award supports the expl
oration of a highly innovative new concept or untested theory that address
es an important problem relevant to lung cancer.  The Concept Award is no
t intended to support an incremental progression of an already established
research project\; instead\, this award mechanism allows Principal Invest
igators (PIs) the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations by supp
orting high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new av
enues for investigation.  Applications must describe how the new idea wil
l enhance the existing knowledge of lung cancer or develop an innovative a
nd novel course of investigation.  Research completed through a Concept A
ward may generate sufficient preliminary data to enable the PI to prepare
an application for future research. \nPresentation of preliminary data is
not consistent with the intent of the Concept Award mechanism.  While th
e inclusion of preliminary data is not prohibited\, the strength of the ap
plication should not rely on preliminary data.\n\nIn addition\, all applic
ations for LCRP funding must specifically address at least one of the Area
s of Emphasis as directed by Congress and have direct relevance to militar
y health. The FY21 LCRP Topic Areas are listed at the end of this announce
 ment.\n\nFunding:        max. $100’000\n\nDuration:      1 yea
r\n\nEligibility: Applicants from international organizations or instituti
ons are eligible to apply\, and there are no citizenship restrictions. All
investigators at or above the level of postdoctoral fellow (or equivalent
) are eligible.\n\nHow to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted through th
e eBRAP platform. They should contain contact information\, a letter of in
tent\, and a list of collaborators and key personnel as suggested on the p
latform. Full applications will be made via a Grants.gov workspace. Full a
pplication packages can be downloaded from Grants.gov at any time.\nNote:
Application review being a blinded process\, it is prohibited to identify
the PI or the host organization in the letter of intent.\n\nPre-Applicatio
 n Deadline: 5:00 p.m. Eastern time (ET)\, April 6\, 2021\nFull Application
  Deadline: 11:59 p.m. ET\, April 20\, 2021 (invitation not required)\n\nGr

ion\n\n	To see the program announcement\, navigate to the search page on G
rants.gov and search for the Opportunity Number W81XWH-21-LCRP-CA\n	For qu
estions about the eBRAP or Grants.gov platforms\, contact the Research Off
ice.\n\n\nAreas of Emphasis: \n\n\n	Identify innovative strategies for pre
vention of the occurrence of lung cancer\n	Identify innovative strategies
for the screening and early detection of lung cancer\n	Understand the mole
cular mechanisms of initiation and progression to lung cancer\n	Understand
contributors to lung cancer development other than tobacco\n	Identify inn
ovative strategies for the treatment of lung cancer\n	Identify innovative
strategies for the prevention of recurrence of or metastases from lung can
cer\n	Develop or optimize prognostic or predictive markers to assist with
therapeutic decision making\n	Understand mechanisms of resistance to treat
ment (primary and secondary) \n	Identify innovative strategies for lung c
ancer care delivery (clinical management/ surveillance/symptom management)
\n	Understand factors that contribute to the health disparities in lung ca
 ncer\, such as biological contributors\; environmental\, social\, and cult
ural factors\; and access to health care\n
