DESCRIPTION:Diseases and injuries can severely affect the functions of the
  central and peripheral nervous systems as well as the sensory organs. To 
 develop novel therapeutic approaches – gene therapy\, optogenetics\, bio
 active molecules\, diagnostic tools\, imaging techniques\, or implants\, a
 mong others – the Fondation Bertarelli has donated CHF 5 million to crea
 te a Catalyst Fund. This fund is designed to foster innovative research an
 d the development of life-saving treatments for diseases (including rare d
 iseases) affecting the brain\, the spinal cord\, the peripheral nervous sy
 stem\, and the sensory organs.\n\nThe fourth and final call from this Fund
  is now open\, with a deadline for applications on 1 June 2021 (17:00 CEST
 ).\n\nWhat:                         \n\n	Projects s
 hould focus on diagnostic procedures and/or therapeutic interventions (inc
 luding basic research approaches) for diseases/disabilities affecting the 
 central and peripheral nervous systems and the sensory organs.\n	Projects 
 can be collaborative\, involving two or more institutions or two or more r
 esearch groups within the same institution.\n\n\nA preference will be give
 n to new projects.\n\nHow long:  \nFunding available for 2-year projects 
 (max. CHF 300’000 per project).\n\nWho: \n\n\n	Researchers employed by a
 n academic institution in Western Switzerland (Bern\, Fribourg\, Geneva\, 
 Jura\, Neuchâtel\, Valais\, Vaud)\n	Researchers employed by an academic i
 nstitution in the rest of Switzerland\, Europe (including the United Kingd
 om)\, or the Middle East\n\n\nWhere:                    
     \nProjects will be implemented at least in part at Campus Biotech 
 in Geneva\, including the use of technological platforms:\n\n\n	preferably
 \, for projects with applicant(s) from institutions in Western Switzerland
 \n	compulsorily\, for projects with applicant(s) from institutions outside
  Western Switzerland (no less than 50% of the costs charged on the project
