DESCRIPTION:Angela KOEHLER Goldblith Career Development Professor in Appli
ed Biology\, Department of Biological Engineering\, MIT Koch Institute for
Integrative Cancer Research\, MIT\, Institute Member\, Board Institute of
MIT and Harvard\, MIT Center for Precision Cancer Medicine\, Cambridge -
USA\nA Lola and John Grace Distinguished Lecture in Cancer Research\n\nAng
ela received her B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Reed Coll
ege in 1997. There she worked under the guidance of Professor Arthur Glasf
eld on structural and biochemical studies of proteins that recognize tRNA
or DNA. In 2003\, she received her PhD in Chemistry from Harvard Universit
y where she worked with Professor Stuart Schreiber to develop novel techno
logies for identifying and characterizing interactions between proteins an
d small molecules. Upon graduation\, she became an Institute Fellow in the
Chemical Biology Program at the Broad Institute and a Group Leader for th
e NCI Initiative for Chemical Genetics. She is also a Project Leader in th
e NCI Cancer Target Discovery and Development (CTD2) Center at the Broad I
nstitute aimed at targeting causal cancer genes with small molecules.\n \
nThe Koehler lab is focused on building chemical tools and methods for stu
dying temporal aspects of transcriptional regulation in development and di
sease with a focus on cancer. The lab pursues these goals by discovering a
nd developing direct small-molecule probes of proteins involved in transcr
iptional regulation such as transcription factors and chromatin modifyi
 ng enzymes.\n\n
