 ustin\, USA\n\nHarnessing Complex Acoustic Data for Longterm Autonomous Mo
 nitoring of Structures\n\nNowadays\, monitoring structural damage evolutio
 n and understanding its longterm impact is crucial. With acoustic-based me
 thods being some of the most promising for autonomous monitoring purposes\
 , this research centers on advancing acoustics for reliable longterm appli
 cations in a range of critical structures. The goal is to characterize dam
 age in its early stages and over time\, so that decision-making and remedi
 al measures can be strategized. Acoustic methods offer unique strengths in
  this area due to their non-invasive nature\, versatility\, and high sensi
 tivities to important structural characteristics. Such sensitivities\, how
 ever\, also pose a challenge. Accounting for extraneous sensitivities is o
 ne of the forefront missions within the broad field of structural health m
 onitoring. This research therefore targets this challenge to unlock the fu
 ll potential of acoustic methods. With complex and potentially large acous
 tic data\, the aim is to discover methods of data simplification via theor
 etical insight\, as well as techniques for grappling with and understandin
 g the data when simplification is not feasible. Case studies are presented
  across a range of structures and components\, including prestressing/post
 -tensioning strands\, prestressed concrete\, and aircraft fuselages.\n\n\n
 Short bio:\nBrennan Dubuc is a postdoctoral fellow in the Applied Research
  Laboratories at the University of Texas at Austin (ARL:UT). His research 
 at ARL:UT focuses on ocean and structural acoustic modeling and machine le
 arning for undersea target tracking. Before joining ARL:UT\, he obtained h
 is doctoral degree in structural engineering from the University of Texas 
 at Austin. His doctoral research was in the area of acoustic-based structu
 ral health monitoring. In this area\, he made contributions to guided wave
  modeling\, acoustoelasticity\, and acoustic emission across a variety of 
 structures. He serves as a reviewer for numerous journals\, including Stru
 ctural Health Monitoring\, Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing\, and 
 the Journal of Sound and Vibration\, to name a few.
