DESCRIPTION:Since 2000\, the Swiss Research Foundation for Electricity and
Mobile Communication (FSM)\, based at ETHZ\, has been promoting scientifi
c research into technologies that generate and use ElectroMagnetic Fields
(EMF). Examples of these technologies are electric power supply installati
ons and equipment as well as radio-based services such as mobile telecommu
nications. EMF is also engaged in the publication and communication of the
results of its research. It is also a competent point of contact for ques
tions about EMF for individuals and institutions in business\, politics an
d society at large.\n\nIn 2021\, the FSM will award a total amount of CHF
250'000 for two innovative research projects on questions related to 5G. T
he focus is on the following two\, non-exclusive\, thematic priorities:\n
\n\n	Basic research on biological effects (in vivo\, in vitro\, human st
udies)\n\nFor example\, studies investigating possible biological effects
of the new 5G frequencies and signal modulation\, especially in the millim
eter wave range\, would be of special interest.\n \n\n	Social science stu
dies on risk perception and acceptance of 5G\n\nIt would be interesting\,
for instance\, to compare the rollout of 5G with the one of its predecesso
r technologies and to interpret why 5G raises heightened public opposition
. Comparisons with other countries would be of great interest.\n\nWho can
apply: any applicant employed at public and private research institutions
in Switzerland and abroad. Have a look at past supported projects.\n\nFund
ing: max. CHF 250’000\n\n\n	Eligible costs: personnel and special expens
 es for fieldwork (equipment\, consumable material\, expenses\, etc.).\n	Do
es NOT cover standard equipment (office equipment\, laboratory apparatus)\
, conference trips and overheads.\n\nDuration: no upper or lower limit.\n\
 nDeadline pre-proposals: 15 August 2021\nDecision pre-proposals: mid Octob
er\nDeadline full proposals: November (upon invitation)\nDecision full pro
posals: December\n\n	An external body\, the Scientific Committee\, decides
on the research funding awards. The FSM's funds are awarded completely in
dependently of the foundation's sponsors\, based solely on scientific crit
eria. Neither sponsors nor supporters of the FSM are represented on the Sc
ientific Committee or have any insight into its work\, nor can they challe
nge the decisions\n	Since its inception in 2000\, FSM has reviewed more th
an 200 applications. 50 projects worth more than CHF 5 million have been f
unded to date.\n\n\nFor further information\, please have a look at the ca
 ll webpage\, funding procedure\, pre-proposal template\, full-proposal tem
 plate and past supported projects.\n
