 es and hazards in mountainous regions under global change\n\nMountainous r
 egions are crucial for reliable and high-quality water supply extending do
 wn to lowland catchments thanks to their abundance in precipitation and sn
 ow and glacier storage. At the same time\, they can represent a threat bec
 ause they produce hydrologic extremes ranging from droughts to floods\, wh
 ich can negatively affect society\, economy\, and ecology. Both their wate
 r supply function and affectedness by extremes are changing because of glo
 bal change. Such change includes a warming climate\, which is comparably s
 trong in mountainous regions\, and direct human intervention through water
  regulations such as reservoir operation or water abstraction for irrigati
 on and artificial snow production. It is crucial to understand these chang
 es in extremes and water resources in order to develop suitable and sustai
 nable adaptation measures and water management practices.\nIn this talk\, 
 I discuss prediction challenges related to local and spatial extremes and 
 direct and indirect human impacts on water resources. I further discuss ho
 w research can tackle these challenges. I present methods to predict extre
 mes for data scarce conditions\, i.e. regions where few or no streamflow o
 bservations are available\, quantify the spatial connectedness of floods\,
  assess climate impacts on flow regimes\, water demand\, and water scarcit
 y\, and quantify the impact of reservoir regulation on hydrologic extremes
 .\n\nShort bio:\nManuela Brunner is a lecturer in the group of Environment
 al Hydrological Systems at the University of Freiburg. Her research focus 
 lies on hydrological extremes and changes in water resources. She develops
  novel methods to simulate and predict floods and droughts and to assess p
 ast and future changes in the water cycle under global change. Manuela Bru
 nner has obtained her PhD from the Universities of Zurich and Grenoble-Alp
 es in 2018 and has since worked as a postdoc at the Swiss Federal Institut
 e for Forest\, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) in Birmensdorf and the Na
 tional Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder\, United States. H
 er current research covers regional droughts and floods\, water scarcity\,
  stochastic streamflow simulation\, predictions in ungauged basins\, and t
 he impact of global change on hydrological extremes and the water cycle.
