DESCRIPTION:Ulrike Kutay\, Institute of Biochemistry\, ETHZ\nEntry into mi
tosis is accompanied by drastic alterations in cellular organization to pr
epare cells for division. The complete disintegration of the nuclear compa
rtment is a hallmark of open mitosis in higher eukaryotes and well suited
to uncover the principles governing the rapid reorganization of cells duri
ng prophase. In my talk\, I will touch upon two main aspects of nuclear en
velope reorganization during mitotic entry of human cells. Firstly\, I wil
l summarize our work on deciphering the molecular mechanisms that govern t
he mitotic disassembly of nuclear pore complexes. Secondly\, I will presen
t our recent work on the dissolution of NE–chromatin contacts\, which re
vealed an unexpected role of Torsin AAA+-ATPases in modulating chromatin
contacts established by the inner nuclear membrane protein LAP1.
