DESCRIPTION:Aim:  Since its inception in 2008\, the Swiss Joint Research 
 Center\, Swiss JRC\, has supported dozens of collaborative research projec
 ts between Microsoft (particularly Microsoft Research and Mixed Reality & 
 AI Zurich) and ETH Zurich and EPFL\, pushing the boundaries of core comput
 er science and cross-disciplinary areas of research.\n\nThe goal of this r
 equest for proposals (RFP) is to identify the next round of collaborative 
 research projects that help advance the science\, leveraging the synergies
  between academic and industrial research in high impact areas of research
 . In line with JRC’s goal of fostering collaborative research\, each pro
 ject must include a named Microsoft researcher who must be committed to co
 ntributing to the project materially.\n\nThe selected winning team of this
  RFP shall receive funding in the form of an unrestricted gift. A second r
 ound of funding pending initial progress and outcomes may be considered at
  some point during this collaboration.\n\nFunding:       Salary for o
 ne PhD student\n\nDuration:      Two years\n\nEligibility: To be eligi
 ble for this RFP\, your institution and proposal must meet the following r
 equirements:\n \n\n	Institution must be ETH Zurich or EPFL.\n	The propose
 d research must be led and performed primarily by ETH Zurich or EPFL facul
 ty but should include one or more names of active and committed collaborat
 ors from Microsoft.\n	The proposed research must align with this RFP’s r
 esearch goals.\n	The proposed research can be cross-disciplinary and sever
 al researchers from the same institution can submit a single\, joint propo
 sal if that contributes to address the proposed research goals.\n\n\nHow t
 o Apply: Once the proposal document is ready for submission and before the
  submission deadline\, the main Microsoft collaborator must submit the pro
 posal (in Word or PDF format) via an online form. There the Microsoft coll
 aborator has the opportunity to submit a supporting statement for this app
 lication. The proposal should not be more than six pages in length of 11-p
 oint font. Proposals should include a time schedule and milestones (24 mon
 ths) that begin in January 2022 and ends in December 2023.\n\nDeadline:
