DESCRIPTION:Aim\n\nThis program supports research that will facilitate int
egration of alpha-synuclein seed amplification assays into clinical studie
s for the purposes of predicting prognosis\, tracking disease progression
and monitoring therapeutic response. Given the role of alpha-synuclein (a-
syn) in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's\, it holds importance as a the
rapeutic target (with more than a dozen a-syn-focused drug programs in tri
als) and as a biomarker candidate for the disease. \n\nRecent cerebral sp
inal fluid a-syn seed amplification assays (SAAs) have demonstrated high
sensitivity and specificity to identify PD study participants. But optimiz
ation and more studies are warranted.\n\nFunding Details\n\n	Duration: Up
to 3 years\n	Award Amount: MJFF plans to allocate at least $3M to these
efforts\n	Projects of all sizes encouraged\n	Budget will not correlate wit
 h funding prioritization\n\nDeadline\n\n\n	13 September 2021\n\nEligibilit
y\n\n\n	Applications may be submitted by researchers or clinicians in or o
utside the United States in:\n\n	\n Biotechnology/pharmaceutical companie
s\, or other publicly or privately held for-profit entities\n Public and
 private non-profit entities\, such as universities\, colleges\, hospitals\
, laboratories\, units of state and local governments and eligible agencie
 s of the federal government\n	\n	\n	Post-doctoral fellows are not eligible
to apply.\n	As projects may require many kinds of expertise\, MJFF encour
 ages industry\, academic\, clinical and/or non-profit collaborations when
appropriate.\n	Applicants proposing prospective recruitment of participant
s should do so in partnership with clinical centers and/or sites that are
equipped to collaborate on such collections.\n\nHow to Apply\n\n\n	Downloa
d the RFA overview and application template\n	Log in or create account in
the grant application portal \n	Submit your completed application\n
