DESCRIPTION:Prof. Carolin Bock\, TU Darmstadt\nCDM Seminar:\n"Hope this E-
Mail finds you well – An empirical investigation on the ambiguous influe
nce of empathy on entrepreneurial success"\nSpeaker: Carolin Bock\, TU Dar
 mstadt\n\nHost: Marc Gruber\n\nAbstract:\nIs entrepreneurial empathy a mer
ely good thing? In contrast to the hitherto predominantly positive view on
entrepreneurial empathy\, psychology and management scholars have recentl
y adopted a more critical perspective. Transferring their findings\, we p
 rovide a novel “too-much-of-a-good-thing” perspective\non entrepreneur
ial empathy. We test our model against a dataset of 4\,725 real entreprene
urs and demonstrate that empathy influences opportunity recognition\, eval
uation\, and exploitation in an inverted U-shaped pattern. We also show th
at these exploited opportunities then lead to higher amounts of financial
resources achieved. These findings provide strong evidence for considering
entrepreneurial empathy as an important but highly ambiguous success\nfac
 tor.\n \nBiographical information\n\nSince 2015\, Carolin Bock is Profess
or of Entrepreneurship at Technische Universität Darmstadt. Before\, she
was Post-Doc at the Center of Entrepreneurial and Financial Studies at Tec
hnische Universität Mu¨nchen. Her main research interests are in the fie
ld of entrepreneurial finance\, particularly on decision-making and value
adding capabilities of different investor types. Further\, she conducts re
search on academic entrepreneurship\, technology transfer processes and en
 trepreneurship in crises.\n
