DESCRIPTION:Kate Newby\n \nWe have the pleasure to invite you to our seco
nd conference of ART FUNDAMENTS — Chapter II Landscape\n\nWednesday\, No
vember 3rd\, 8:15 a.m to 9:00. with the New Zealand artist Kate Newby\nThi
s event is the second of a series of public conferences organized by ART F
UNDAMENTS. It relates the course’s second chapter which investigates our
relations to landscape. \n\nThis chapter is structured around the main q
uestion of: how do artistic practices allow us to develop an understanding
of landscape? We explored how landscape can be defined and how this influ
ences the type of relationships that are built with it. Through various ra
nges of examples\, we discussed what are the diverse artistic strategies t
o develop a critical\, formal\, discursive or poetical experience related
to the natural or urban landscape.  \n\nIn order to bring a diversity of
perspectives to the students\, we are pleased to invite the artist Kate N
ewby to present her own approach. She creates site-responsive intervention
s focusing on revealing the spatial aspects of the site (light\, chromatic
 ity\, weight\, circulation\, dimensions). She creates handmade\, crudely c
onstructed sculptural interventions that simultaneously connect and contra
st their environments. Drawing out both the physical and poetic qualities
of materials (usually materials such as concrete\, textiles\, glass\, and
ceramics)\, her work explores whether situational context can be just as i
nformative as materiality and content.\n\nKate Newby was born in 1979 in A
uckland\, New Zealand. A 2015 graduate of the Elam School of Fine Arts at
the University of Auckland\, she currently lives and works in Brookyln\, N
ew York. Her work has been exhibited internationally\, including at the Ku
nsthalle Vienna (2018)\, Madragoa\, Lisbon and the Institut d'art contempo
rain\, Villeurbanne (2019) and Feuilleton Los Angeles (2020). She particip
ated in the 21st Biennale of Sydney in 2018 and was awarded the prestigiou
 s Walters Prize in 2012.\n\nMeeting : 624 3453 5563\nPassword : FUNDAMEN
