The federal government has mandated the SNSF to launch the SNSF Starting Grants 2023. The call will open on 1 November 2022, the deadline for submission is 1 February 2023 at 17:00 CET.

The SNSF Starting Grants is an integrative call which, in addition to the transitional measure for the ERC Starting Grants 2023, also covers the SNSF Professorial Fellowships call 2023.

This grant allows outstanding researchers to lead an independent research project in any disciplines and a team of researchers in CH.

Eligibility:

  • Min. 2 years of scientific activity since obtaining the PhD.
  • Max. 8 years since obtaining the PhD. The eligibility window can be extended for interruptions such as parental leave, care duties, sickness/accident, further scientific training (see Clause 1.11 of the SNSF General Implementation regulations).
  • Resubmissions: you can only apply twice for a SNSF Starting Grant.

Funding & Duration:
  • Max. CHF 1.8M for max. 5 years (including applicant's salary, if applicable).

How to get EPFL's support?
  • Check out the EPFL Toolkit.
  • Do you hold a professorship position?
    • Yes: to obtain the General Confirmation Letter, submit draft application and detailed confirmation letter (template in the Toolkit) signed by the Institute Director to [email protected], indicating your commitment time to the project (min. 50%).
    • No: to obtain the General Confirmation Letter, follow the internal process and deadlines put in place by your host Schools for SNSF Professorial Fellowships and ERC Starting Grant (contact your host institute and school as soon as possible). At EPFL, grantees who are awarded an SNSF Starting Grant shall be appointed by the ETH-Board as assistant professors without tenure track and will receive CHF 100K in startup funds.

  • Go to mySNF and fill out your CV on the SNSF portal. Be aware that creating a new mySNF account and adapting your CV to the SNSF format may take several days.
