            "description": "<p>Abstract:<br>\r\nOlfactory navigation emerges from dynamic interactions among sensory input, brain activity, and the animal’s own movements. In C. elegans, a compact nervous system enables brain-wide imaging in behaving animals exposed to controlled olfactory environments, and undulatory locomotion reduces navigation to transitions among forward runs, reversals, and turns. Here, we used brain-wide tracking microscopy to record neural activity in freely crawling worms navigating spatial odor gradients or isotropic environments, and in immobilized worms responding to temporal odor pulses. Across conditions, we identified strongly correlated brain-wide activity patterns spanning olfactory sensory neurons, interneurons, and premotor neurons. Motor-state transitions and brain-wide correlation structure differed between freely moving and immobilized animals, demonstrating that olfactory sensory representations depend jointly on sensory input, motor activity, and behavioral context. Together, these findings show that brain-wide representations of olfactory behavior are extensively reconfigured by sensory input, self-motion, and behavioral context.<br>\r\n </p>",

Dyson Professor of Pediatric Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School, an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the Associate Director for Basic Science at the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center.  He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Chicago.  During medical school, he did research at the Rockefeller University.  His postdoctoral fellowship was at the Whitehead Institute/Massachusetts Institute of Technology.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe Pellman Lab works on the mechanism of cell division and how certain cell division errors drive rapid genome evolution.  His research has contributed to the understanding of cell division, the origin of cell division errors in cancer, how cell division errors drive genetic instability and the mechanisms driving rapid evolution of cancer genomes. Our contributions include (1) the co-discovery of formin-dependent actin nucleation and a mechanism for spindle positioning during asymmetric cell division, (2) discoveries establishing that whole genome duplication can drive tumorigenesis, alter cell physiology, and accelerate evolutionary adaptation, and (3) the discovery of a mechanism explaining chromothripsis, a mutational process that generates rapid karyotype evolution in cancer and congenital disease.</div>\r\n</div>\r\n</div>\r\n</div>\r\n</div>\r\n</div>\r\n</div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e552a16 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\">\r\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"> </div>\r\n</div>",

            "description": "<strong>Title</strong>: <br>\r\nPositive random walks and positive-semidefinite random matrices<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Abstract</strong>:<br>\r\nOn the real line, a random walk that can only move in the positive direction is very unlikely to remain close to its origin. After a fixed number of steps, the left tail has a Gaussian profile under minimal assumptions. Remarkably, a similar phenomenon occurs when we consider a positive random walk on the cone of positive-semidefinite matrices. After a fixed number of steps, the minimum eigenvalue is described by a Gaussian random matrix model.<br>\r\nThis talk introduces a new way to make this intuition rigorous. The methodology addresses an open problem in computational mathematics about sparse random embeddings.             "description": "<p>Zhenfeng Xi<br>\r\n<em>College of Chemistry, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China.</em><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong><em>Abstract:</em></strong><br>\r\nNowadays almost all artificial synthetic nitrogen-containing organic compounds (N-C bonding) are prepared via ammonia (NH<sub>3</sub>, the Haber-Bosch product). The ultimate research goal of our group is to synthesize nitrogen-containing organic compounds efficiently and directly from N<sub>2</sub> gas as the nitrogen source, bypassing the NH<sub>3</sub>-depended synthetic pathway, mainly via metal-mediated or catalyzed dinitrogen functionalization.<sup>1</sup><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<img alt=\"\" id=\"_x0000_i1025\" o:ole=\"\" src=\"file:///C:/Users/mborcard/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image001.emz\"><br>\r\n<img alt=\"\" id=\"图片_x0020_1\" src=\"file:///C:/Users/mborcard/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image002.emz\"><br>\r\n<br>\r\nAt this presentation, I will briefly introduce two results recently realized in my research group.             "description": "<p>Abstract<br>\r\nAround 30% of cancers are preceded by chronic inflammation which occurs at the site where tumors will develop. However, whether this oncogenic process, particularly observed in the intestine, can be initiated by a specific immune cell population remains unknown. We recently identified two distinct effector T cell populations capable to initiate the oncogenic transformation of a healthy intestinal epithelium (Fesneau et al., Nat Immunol. 2024; Brewer et al., Nat. Rev. Canc. 2024), as well as the factors controlling their differentiation. By revealing the presence of tumorigenic T cells, this work opens a new field in oncology and immunology that will be key for both our understanding of the early steps of carcinogenesis and the development of prophylactic therapies against cancer.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\n </p>",

            "description": "<strong>A Lola and John Grace Distinguished Lecture in Cancer Research</strong>\r\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-98cefd8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\">\r\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"><br>\r\nDr. Jun J. Yang has a long-standing interest in human genetics, dating back to his early education in China where he received his undergrad and master’s degrees. He completed his PhD training at Purdue University and moved to St. Jude where he transitioned from postdoc training to faculty in 2010. Dr. Yang currently serves as Vice Chair for the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and is the Associate Director of the Hematological Malignancies T32 Training Program at the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center. He was elected President of the Pharmacogenomics Research Network in 2021. Dr. Yang has been continuously funded by the NIH since 2011 and receives funding from prestigious nonprofit organizations including the V Foundation. Dr. Yang is committed to genomic and pharmacogenomic research of pediatric leukemia and leverages multi-disciplinary collaborations to ask scientific questions on a global scale.</div>\r\n</div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e552a16 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\">\r\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"> </div>\r\n</div>",
