High-resolution quantitative measurements of the oligomeric organization of membrane proteins in native membranes, and how they change under different conditions, are indispensable for understanding membrane protein biology. Her lab reported a single-molecule technique, Native-nanoBleach, to determine the oligomeric distribution of membrane proteins from native membranes at ~10 nm spatial resolution and at endogenous levels of expression. They applied Native-nanoBleach to quantify the oligomerization status of structurally and functionally diverse membrane proteins. Her team has now extended this general technique to organellar membrane proteins and membrane contact sites in the context of neurodegeneration and rare developmental diseases. This general experimental pipeline will usher in a new era of studying membrane protein organization in their native membrane environments under various physiological and clinical conditions.
\r\n \r\n
Bio: Moitrayee Bhattacharyya received her Ph.D. in Computational Biophysics at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where she used molecular dynamics simulations and network theory to study allosteric communication in protein complexes. She transitioned into experimental biology during her postdoctoral studies at the University of California, Berkeley, as a Human Frontiers Science Program Long Term Fellow. Here, she used structural biology and single-molecule microscopy to study the molecular mechanism of regulation in a calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase that is critical for learning and memory. She started her lab at Yale University in the summer of 2020. One focus is to develop broad-impact technological platforms that enable high-resolution studies of membrane proteins in native membranes, in her lab and beyond. Her lab also applies these technologies in conjunction with established biophysical and structural methods to understand the molecular mechanisms of membrane-localized signaling in chronic pain and neurodegenerative diseases.
", "image_description": "", "creation_date": "2026-05-08T14:43:44", "last_modification_date": "2026-05-11T09:28:30", "link_label": "", "link_url": "https://medicine.yale.edu/profile/moitrayee-bhattacharyya/", "canceled": "False", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "Conference room SV.1717", "url_place_and_room": "https://www.epfl.ch/schools/sv/it/sv-rooms/#SV1717", "url_online_room": "", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Moitrayee Bhattacharyya, Ph.D. Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Yale University School of Medicine ", "organizer": "Institute of Bioengineering, EPFL", "contact": "Prof. Florian Schueder", "is_internal": "False", "theme": "", "vulgarization": { "id": 1, "fr_label": "Tout public", "en_label": "General public" }, "registration": { "id": 3, "fr_label": "Entrée libre", "en_label": "Free" }, "keywords": "", "file": null, "icalendar_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/120702/", "category": { "id": 1, "code": "CONF", "fr_label": "Conférences - Séminaires", "en_label": "Conferences - Seminars", "activated": true }, "academic_calendar_category": null, "domains": [], "mementos": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/1/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/5/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/6/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/8/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/9/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/111/?format=api" ] }, { "id": 71851, "title": "Neuro-X seminar: Prof Damien Thuau - Organic Electrochemical Transistors with Electropolymerized Channel", "slug": "neuro-x-seminar-prof-damien-thuau-organic-electroc", "event_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/neuro-x-seminar-prof-damien-thuau-organic-electroc", "visual_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/33169/200x112.jpg", "visual_large_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/33169/720x405.jpg", "visual_maxsize_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/33169/max-size.jpg", "lang": "en", "start_date": "2026-05-26", "end_date": "2026-05-26", "start_time": "10:00:00", "end_time": "11:00:00", "description": "
Organic Electrochemical Transistors (OECTs) have gained significant research interest for applications as chemical/biological sensors and in neuromorphic circuits due to their high transconductance, efficient electron-ion coupling, compatibility with aqueous solutions, conformability, and low voltage operation. These advantages stem from organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors (OMIECs) that enable simultaneous transport of electronic charges and ionic species, which can be direct processed via electropolymerization. This technique offers precise control over polymer film thickness and morphology, facilitating the formation of nanostructures and enabling selective patterning on individual channels without complex photolithography, simplifying OECT fabrication and integration. In this talk, I will discuss the performance of OECTs using various electropolymerized channel materials, starting with PEDOT for dopamine detection, followed PEDOT:N3, a clickable OMIEC variant whose threshold voltage can be finely tuned through control of the electropolymerization parameters, and finally P-tri-DPA for zinc ion detection, achieving low limits of detection and high specificity for Zn²⁺ ions. These findings highlight the potential of electropolymerization and OMIEC materials engineering in developing advanced bioelectronic devices.
", "image_description": "", "creation_date": "2026-05-12T14:28:49", "last_modification_date": "2026-05-12T14:28:49", "link_label": "", "link_url": "", "canceled": "False", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "B1-6", "url_place_and_room": "https://plan.epfl.ch/?room==B1%206%20272.043", "url_online_room": "https://epfl.zoom.us/j/66316100683?pwd=64CIcLzsW9F1aqwdTsOBlYp6DjbjjC.1", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Prof Damien Thuau", "organizer": "Giuseppe Schiavone", "contact": "Niels Lion", "is_internal": "False", "theme": "", "vulgarization": { "id": 2, "fr_label": "Public averti", "en_label": "Informed public" }, "registration": { "id": 3, "fr_label": "Entrée libre", "en_label": "Free" }, "keywords": "", "file": null, "icalendar_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/120723/", "category": { "id": 1, "code": "CONF", "fr_label": "Conférences - Séminaires", "en_label": "Conferences - Seminars", "activated": true }, "academic_calendar_category": null, "domains": [], "mementos": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/347/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/392/?format=api" ] }, { "id": 71109, "title": "Next-Generation Stem Cell-based Human Embryo Models Through Bioengineering", "slug": "next-generation-stem-cell-based-human-embryo-mod-2", "event_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/next-generation-stem-cell-based-human-embryo-mod-2", "visual_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32481/200x112.jpg", "visual_large_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32481/720x405.jpg", "visual_maxsize_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32481/max-size.jpg", "lang": "en", "start_date": "2026-05-29", "end_date": "2026-05-29", "start_time": "17:00:00", "end_time": null, "description": "
Thesis Directors: Prof. M. Particular interest is attracted by resonant metasurfaces, where optical modes provide extreme confinement of light in the nanostructures volume and subsequent enhancement of light-matter interaction. This aspect is essential to boost the efficiency of various phenomena, from optical nonlinearities (e.g., multiphoton interaction like in second-harmonic generation) to reconfiguration mechanisms (i.e., dynamic modulation of the refractive index). In this talk I will survey techniques of controlling light at the nanoscale, focusing on nonlinear and reconfiguration processes, what they offer and what are their limitations.
\r\n
\r\nYou don't know POBs?
\r\nPOBs (Pizza-Optics-Beer) are monthly seminars organized by the student association EPFL Photonics Chapter.
\r\nA PhD or a postdoc gives a 20-minutes presentation about his/her research in photonics. Discussions continue informally around pizza and beers!
\r\nThe event is free and open to anyone.
\r\n
\r\nWe thank the Doctoral Program in Photonics (EPDO), the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE.), Optica and SwissPhotonics for their support.
", "image_description": "", "creation_date": "2026-05-04T11:29:20", "last_modification_date": "2026-05-04T11:45:37", "link_label": "", "link_url": "", "canceled": "False", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "CO 124", "url_place_and_room": "https://plan.epfl.ch/?room==CO%20124", "url_online_room": "", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Agostino Di Francescantonio", "organizer": "EPFL Photonics Chapter (EPC)", "contact": " [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]
\r\n ", "is_internal": "False", "theme": "", "vulgarization": { "id": 1, "fr_label": "Tout public", "en_label": "General public" }, "registration": { "id": 3, "fr_label": "Entrée libre", "en_label": "Free" }, "keywords": "", "file": null, "icalendar_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/120631/", "category": { "id": 1, "code": "CONF", "fr_label": "Conférences - Séminaires", "en_label": "Conferences - Seminars", "activated": true }, "academic_calendar_category": null, "domains": [], "mementos": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/1/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/5/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/6/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/8/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/10/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/204/?format=api" ] }, { "id": 71488, "title": "Postdoc Fellowship & Mobility funding opportunities - Information session", "slug": "postdoc-fellowship-mobility-funding-opportunitie-4", "event_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/postdoc-fellowship-mobility-funding-opportunitie-4", "visual_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32833/200x112.jpg", "visual_large_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32833/720x405.jpg", "visual_maxsize_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32833/max-size.jpg", "lang": "en", "start_date": "2026-06-09", "end_date": "2026-06-09", "start_time": "12:15:00", "end_time": "13:45:00", "description": "
Are you a PhD student or new postdoc who is interested in learning more about funding opportunities for fellowships or career mobility?
