Productivity may be affected and finances impacted as a result of tensions between colleagues.
\r\n
\r\nDifferent approaches to conflict management are increasingly being used, helping clarify messy situations, lessening the tensions and enabling employees to continue to work together.
\r\n
\r\nThis seminar presents several separate yet related methods of conflict management. One of which, mediation, enables the parties in dispute to work towards a viable solution by taking into account all the different aspects of the problem. The mediator, as a neutral third party, uses tools and communication skills to help the parties elaborate, themselves, mutually satisfactory solutions. High-resolution quantitative measurements of the oligomeric organization of membrane proteins in native membranes, and how they change under different conditions, are indispensable for understanding membrane protein biology. Her lab reported a single-molecule technique, Native-nanoBleach, to determine the oligomeric distribution of membrane proteins from native membranes at ~10 nm spatial resolution and at endogenous levels of expression. They applied Native-nanoBleach to quantify the oligomerization status of structurally and functionally diverse membrane proteins. Her team has now extended this general technique to organellar membrane proteins and membrane contact sites in the context of neurodegeneration and rare developmental diseases. This general experimental pipeline will usher in a new era of studying membrane protein organization in their native membrane environments under various physiological and clinical conditions.
\r\n \r\n
Bio: Moitrayee Bhattacharyya received her Ph.D. in Computational Biophysics at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where she used molecular dynamics simulations and network theory to study allosteric communication in protein complexes. She transitioned into experimental biology during her postdoctoral studies at the University of California, Berkeley, as a Human Frontiers Science Program Long Term Fellow. Here, she used structural biology and single-molecule microscopy to study the molecular mechanism of regulation in a calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase that is critical for learning and memory. She started her lab at Yale University in the summer of 2020. One focus is to develop broad-impact technological platforms that enable high-resolution studies of membrane proteins in native membranes, in her lab and beyond. Her lab also applies these technologies in conjunction with established biophysical and structural methods to understand the molecular mechanisms of membrane-localized signaling in chronic pain and neurodegenerative diseases.
", "image_description": "", "creation_date": "2026-05-08T14:43:44", "last_modification_date": "2026-05-11T09:28:30", "link_label": "", "link_url": "https://medicine.yale.edu/profile/moitrayee-bhattacharyya/", "canceled": "False", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "Conference room SV.1717", "url_place_and_room": "https://www.epfl.ch/schools/sv/it/sv-rooms/#SV1717", "url_online_room": "", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Moitrayee Bhattacharyya, Ph.D. Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Yale University School of Medicine ", "organizer": "Institute of Bioengineering, EPFL", "contact": "Prof. Florian Schueder", "is_internal": "False", "theme": "", "vulgarization": { "id": 1, "fr_label": "Tout public", "en_label": "General public" }, "registration": { "id": 3, "fr_label": "Entrée libre", "en_label": "Free" }, "keywords": "", "file": null, "icalendar_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/120702/", "category": { "id": 1, "code": "CONF", "fr_label": "Conférences - Séminaires", "en_label": "Conferences - Seminars", "activated": true }, "academic_calendar_category": null, "domains": [], "mementos": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/1/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/5/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/6/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/8/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/9/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/111/?format=api" ] }, { "id": 71932, "title": "Failure-Aware LLM Serving for Agentic Workloads", "slug": "failure-aware-llm-serving-for-agentic-workloads", "event_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/failure-aware-llm-serving-for-agentic-workloads", "visual_url": null, "visual_large_url": null, "visual_maxsize_url": null, "lang": "en", "start_date": "2026-06-17", "end_date": "2026-06-17", "start_time": "09:00:00", "end_time": "11:00:00", "description": "EDIC candidacy exam
\r\nExam president: Prof. Anastasia Ailamaki
\r\nThesis advisor: Prof. Anne-Marie Kermarrec
\r\nCo-examiner: Prof. Robert West
\r\n
\r\nAbstract
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nSelected papers\r\n
\r\n\t
ReAct (https://arxiv.org/pdf/2210.03629)
\r\n\t
Agentix (https://www.usenix.org/system/files/nsdi26-luo.pdf)
\r\n\t
Why do multi-agent systems fail? If I start a clinical trial using the drug AI thinks is best, will it pan out? How can we ensure high-quality products when AI is used in a larger workflow? That is, how do I know whether AI automated a task correctly? AI powered imputations are beginning to substitute for real data when collection of the latter is difficult, slow, or costly. How then should we leverage machine learning predictions both as a substitute for high-quality data and as a tool for guiding real data collection?
\r\n
\r\nBernoulli Center for Fundamental Studies
\r\n
", "image_description": "Georges de Rham", "creation_date": "2026-04-09T11:23:48", "last_modification_date": "2026-04-21T10:30:46", "link_label": "REGISTER HERE", "link_url": "https://forms.cloud.microsoft/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=alXC9vvEsUqix54iDfEcQz1L8lg9k1hKjoS8MXHPYMFUN1MwRk5PUzA3MDhGNUgwS0tMRlRKSVZSSi4u", "canceled": "False", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "PO 01", "url_place_and_room": "https://plan.epfl.ch/?room==PO%2001", "url_online_room": "", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Prof Hong Wang, IHES & NYU
\r\nProf Emmanuel Candès, Stanford", "organizer": "Bernoulli Center", "contact": "[email protected]", "is_internal": "False", "theme": "", "vulgarization": { "id": 3, "fr_label": "Expert", "en_label": "Expert" }, "registration": { "id": 1, "fr_label": "Sur inscription", "en_label": "Registration required" }, "keywords": "Kakeya, AI, statistics", "file": "https://memento.epfl.ch/public/upload/files/DERHAMAffiche.jpg", "icalendar_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/120322/", "category": { "id": 1, "code": "CONF", "fr_label": "Conférences - Séminaires", "en_label": "Conferences - Seminars", "activated": true }, "academic_calendar_category": null, "domains": [], "mementos": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/1/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/5/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/6/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/7/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/27/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/145/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/400/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/416/?format=api" ] }, { "id": 71443, "title": "Mathematics Colloquium", "slug": "mathematics-colloquium-13", "event_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/mathematics-colloquium-13", "visual_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32790/200x112.jpg", "visual_large_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32790/720x405.jpg", "visual_maxsize_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32790/max-size.jpg", "lang": "en", "start_date": "2026-06-17", "end_date": "2026-06-17", "start_time": "16:15:00", "end_time": "17:15:00", "description": "Title:
\r\nPositive random walks and positive-semidefinite random matrices
\r\n
\r\nAbstract:
\r\nOn the real line, a random walk that can only move in the positive direction is very unlikely to remain close to its origin. After a fixed number of steps, the left tail has a Gaussian profile under minimal assumptions. Remarkably, a similar phenomenon occurs when we consider a positive random walk on the cone of positive-semidefinite matrices. After a fixed number of steps, the minimum eigenvalue is described by a Gaussian random matrix model.
\r\nThis talk introduces a new way to make this intuition rigorous. The methodology addresses an open problem in computational mathematics about sparse random embeddings. The presentation targets a general mathematical audience.
\r\nPreprint: https://arxiv.org/abs/2501.16578
\r\n
\r\nPlease register on the following form : https://forms.gle/ppXwKo9HmTgFk3rc7", "image_description": "", "creation_date": "2026-04-01T11:03:30", "last_modification_date": "2026-04-01T11:03:45", "link_label": "", "link_url": "", "canceled": "False", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "BCH 2201", "url_place_and_room": "https://plan.epfl.ch/?room==BCH%202201", "url_online_room": "", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Prof. Joel A. However, whether this oncogenic process, particularly observed in the intestine, can be initiated by a specific immune cell population remains unknown. We recently identified two distinct effector T cell populations capable to initiate the oncogenic transformation of a healthy intestinal epithelium (Fesneau et al., Nat Immunol. 2024; Brewer et al., Nat. Rev. Canc. 2024), as well as the factors controlling their differentiation. By revealing the presence of tumorigenic T cells, this work opens a new field in oncology and immunology that will be key for both our understanding of the early steps of carcinogenesis and the development of prophylactic therapies against cancer.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
", "image_description": "Prof. Julien Marie", "creation_date": "2026-03-06T11:49:19", "last_modification_date": "2026-03-11T09:53:47", "link_label": "", "link_url": "", "canceled": "False", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "SV 1717", "url_place_and_room": "https://plan.epfl.ch/?room==SV%201717", "url_online_room": "https://epfl.zoom.us/j/65172501275", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Prof. Julien MARIE, CRCL : Cancer Research Center of Lyon ", "organizer": "Prof. Daniel Constam", "contact": "Prof. Daniel Constam", "is_internal": "True", "theme": "", "vulgarization": { "id": 2, "fr_label": "Public averti", "en_label": "Informed public" }, "registration": { "id": 3, "fr_label": "Entrée libre", "en_label": "Free" }, "keywords": "", "file": null, "icalendar_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/119997/", "category": { "id": 1, "code": "CONF", "fr_label": "Conférences - Séminaires", "en_label": "Conferences - Seminars", "activated": true }, "academic_calendar_category": null, "domains": [], "mementos": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/1/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/9/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/6/?format=api" ] } ] }
