The interaction and networking with the community is essential to our activity: indeed, we teach to and learn from each other. The circle symbolizes the flow of information among peers as well as a paradigm where crossbreeding of ideas and methods is key to scientific advances. This message will be portrayed with examples from my scientific career and a vision of the future.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>About the speaker</strong><br>\r\nGiovanni De Micheli is currently the Scientific Director of the EcoCloud center at EPFL. He was professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Stanford and EPFL for 40 years. Prof. De Micheli is a Fellow of ACM, AAAS and IEEE, elected member of 4 Academies, including the US National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Principal Investigators must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition, and feasibility of their research proposal.<br>\r\n An ERC Advanced Grant Principal Investigator is expected to be an active researcher and to have a track record of significant research achievements. The scientific excellence of the research project and the applicant’s track record are the only evaluation criteria.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Lump-sum Funding & duration</strong><br>\r\nUp to EUR 2.5 mio. for a period of 5 years, including 25% overhead. For shorter project periods, the budget will be applied pro rata temporis. Additional funding up to EUR 1 mio., including 25% overhead, may be requested for well justified reasons; additional funding covers for example start-up costs for PIs moving to Switzerland as a consequence of receiving the ERC grant, purchase of major equipment, access to large facilities, other major experimental and field work costs including personnel costs. For applicants relocating to the EU or a Horizon Europe Associated country, additional funding for up to EUR 2 million can be requested.<br>\r\nThe budget submitted for evaluation must provide the details which allow the sound assessment of the requested resources. Payment of the lump sum contribution will be based on the work carried out and reported, irrespective of the actual costs incurred.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>New proposal format</strong><br>\r\nThe Extended<strong> </strong>Synopsis and the Scientific Proposal have been rethought in terms of focus and applicants are now requested to submit Part I of the Scientific Proposal (setting out the background, the objectives, and the overall research strategy) and Part II of the Scientific Proposal focusing primarily on the implementation). Motivated by recent results on the higher moments of the SHE in two dimensions at $L^{2}$-criticality, a natural question is whether the higher moments of the SHE in high dimensions also converge at the $L^{2}$-critical point. Our main result gives a negative answer: in high dimensions, the higher moments diverge when the coupling constant belongs to a nontrivial right-closed interval whose upper endpoint is the $L^{2}$-critical point. In particular, we obtain a sharp bound for the critical coupling constant at which the corresponding limiting higher moment undergoes a phase transition.
