In
\r\nthis talk, I will consider two-dimensional travelling waves governed by the full Euler equations
\r\nand driven solely by gravity. I will present two recent results. First, using global bifurcation
\r\ntheory, we construct periodic travelling waves with arbitrary vorticity. These waves may exhibit
\r\ncritical layers and overhanging profiles, illustrating the rich range of phenomena permitted in the
\r\nwater wave problem. Second, for irrotational solitary waves, we establish a new and sharper
\r\nupper bound for the Froude number (a non-dimensional wave speed).
