            "description": "<p>Recent advances in foundation models are extending AI beyond perception and language understanding toward embodied systems that can perceive, reason, and act in the physical world. This transition is accelerating the development of vision-language-action (VLA) models and robot foundation models that aim to provide robots with more general, adaptive, and deployable intelligence.<br>\r\nThis talk presents recent progress toward self-working humanoid robots, covering key ideas in embodied AI such as multimodal understanding, long-horizon planning, action generation, and real-world deployment. It also introduces recent research from Seoul National University BI Lab and AI Institute on human-robot interaction, personalization, continual adaptation, and language-conditioned robot learning, together with the Habilis framework developed at Tommoro Robotics for deployable humanoid intelligence.<br>\r\nFinally, the talk discusses a future architecture for self-working humanoids that integrates perception, memory, reasoning, planning, and action into a unified learning system. In this talk, I will present low-cost experiments in AI-assisted mathematics, ranging from simple prompting to agentic workflows and interaction with proof assistants. Drawing on both research and teaching examples, I will discuss what worked, what failed, and what these experiments suggest about the near future. All materials are freely available online for reuse and adaptation.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Bio</strong><br>\r\nDr. Lelarge is a researcher at INRIA and a lecturer in the computer science department of Ecole Normale Superieure. He graduated from Ecole Polytechnique, qualified as an engineer at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications and received a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Ecole Polytechnique in 2005. His research interests include machine learning, deep learning, graphs, large language models and programming languages.<br>\r\n </p>",

            "description": "<p>This one-day symposium brings together leading researchers in the field of creative thinking to explore how creativity emerges, develops, and can be nurtured through education.<br>\r\nCo-organized by the CIBM MRI EPFL Section and HEP Vaud, the symposium is designed to support and inspire the ongoing <a href=\"https://cibm.ch/tesseract-initiative/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https://cibm.ch/tesseract-initiative/\">TESSERACT research initiative</a>, which aims to advance a holistic understanding of child development, learning, and creativity.<br>\r\nAttendance is available both onsite (limited to 40 places!) and online. Participants can choose between several registration options: full-day attendance with lunch, morning sessions only, afternoon sessions only, or online participation.<br>\r\nTo enhance the onsite experience, a lunch break with networking opportunities will be offered to the ones registering for the full  day.             "description": "<p>The talk is jointly organized by the <a href=\"https://ai.epfl.ch/\">EPFL AI Center</a> and the EPFL <a href=\"https://search.epfl.ch/?filter=unit&amp;q=MLBIO#\">Machine Learning for Biomedicine Lab (MLBIO</a>) as part of the AI Fundamentals seminar series.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Title</strong><br>\r\nAgents That Know What They Know: Interpretability and Introspection for Lifelong Learning<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Abstract</strong><br>\r\nOne of the hallmarks of intelligence is the ability to learn from experience. In artificial intelligence, we frame this as lifelong learning: autonomous agents that continue to adapt after deployment as they encounter new tasks and environments. In this talk, I will argue that successful lifelong learning agents require a form of introspection: they must be able to reason about the scope and limits of their own knowledge. This self-knowledge allows an agent to answer three fundamental questions. What do I know? When can I reuse what I know? And what do I still need to learn? I will present recent work from my group showing how ideas from interpretability and explainability can surface the knowledge needed to answer these questions. I will first show how learned representations can be used to identify when inputs are novel, enabling out-of-distribution detection. Then, I will discuss how this can be built upon to give agents a way to distinguish between situations where prior knowledge can be safely reused and situations where new learning is needed. Together, this work shows that interpretability is not only a tool for transparency, but a mechanism for building agents that recognize, reuse, and acquire knowledge over time.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Bio</strong><br>\r\nJoseph Campbell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University, where he leads the Collaborative AI for Machines and People Lab. His research bridges machine learning and robotics, with a focus on explainable machine learning and lifelong learning. Before joining Purdue, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, and he received his Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. degrees from Arizona State University. His research is supported by Amazon, the Toyota Research Institute, and the National Science Foundation.</p>",
