"description": "Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the Department of Defense is announcing the 2026 Spinal Cord Injury Research Program (SCIRP) Awards. Several award programs are available:\r\n
\r\n\t
The Clinical Trial Award supports the rapid implementation of clinical trials with the potential to have a significant impact on the treatment or management of spinal cord injury (SCI). Proposed projects may range from small proof of-concept trials (i.e., pilot, first-in-human, phase 0) to demonstrate the feasibility or inform the design of more advanced trials through large scale trials to determine efficacy in relevant patient populations.
\r\n\t
The Clinical Translation Research Award supports high-impact, new or emerging clinical research that requires additional preliminary studies, such as feasibility, pilot, or optimization, to prepare for future larger-scale clinical trials or implementation.
\r\n\t
The Translational Research Award supports translational research that will accelerate the movement of promising ideas in SCI research into clinical applications. Applications may include preclinical evaluations of interventions and/or clinical studies involving human subjects and human anatomical substances.
\r\n\t
The Investigator-Initiated Research Award supports studies that have the potential to make an important contribution to SCI research, patient care and/or quality of life. Permitted research includes preclinical studies in animal models, research with human subjects or human anatomical substances, as well as ancillary studies associated with an existing clinical trial.
\r\n
\r\nAll applications must address at least one of the program Priority Areas and undertake an associated near-term Programmatic Goal. "description": "
Supercurrent diode effects have recently attracted much attention for their potential applications in superconducting logic circuits, rectification applications and also in the study of fundamental symmetries of the underlying superconducting order parameter. In this talk, I’ll introduce the idea of finite momentum Cooper pairing (FMCP) in systems with strong helical spin-momentum locking and how this can naturally give rise to non-reciprocity in superconducting critical currents namely the Josephson diode effect (JDE). I’ll describe our work establishing the presence of a large JDE due to FMCP in lateral Josephson junctions formed from centrosymmetric van der Waals type-II Dirac semimetals 1T-NiTe2 and 1T-PtTe2. A theoretical analysis based on a Ginzburg-Landau type model suggests that the FMCP introduces a phase difference between the first (Cooper pair) and second (Cooper quartet) harmonic supercurrents, which manifests as the JDE. Measurements of the JDE as a function of the in-plane magnetic field and half-flux quantum oscillations in the JDE are in good agreement with the predictions, indicating the presence of large second harmonic supercurrents in the junction. Surface modifications are shown to strongly enhance the supercurrents in the junction, nearly by a factor of two, indicating the strong contribution of the topological surface states to the supercurrent transport. Overall, 1T systems provide an interesting platform for exploring the interplay of FMCP, JDE and topological superconductivity.
\r\n
\r\nBio: Dr. Pranava Keerthi Sivakumar completed his Bachelors and Masters in Chemistry with a minor in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India in 2017. He then moved to Germany where he completed his Ph.D. at the Martin Luther University in Halle, graduating summa cum laude. During his Ph.D., he worked on studying the electrical transport properties of materials with non-collinear spin textures and unconventional superconductivity due to strong spin-orbit coupling. Most notably during his Ph.D., he uncovered the role of finite momentum pairing induced Josephson diode effect in topological materials with helical spin-momentum. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the NISE department in the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, focusing on the interplay of magnetization dynamics and supercurrent transport in superconductor-ferromagnet heterostructures.
",

Drawing from ancient practices of reuse, cannibalization, and ritualized demolition, Brandon Clifford explores how past cultures anticipated the afterlives of their buildings—and what those strategies can teach us about designing structures that expect transformation, disassembly, and reuse. The lecture proposes future architectures that are conceived with their second (and third) lives already embedded in their form, material logic, and construction.
\r\n
\r\nBrandon Clifford mines ancient construction techniques to envision transformative architectural futures. This talk presents two complementary ways of decoding regulatory logic: learning by perturbation and learning by generative design. CRISPR-CLEAR couples dense base-editing with direct sequencing of alleles to map regulatory elements at single-nucleotide resolution; applied to a CD19 enhancer, it revealed noncoding variants that can confer resistance to CAR-T therapy in leukemia. DNA-Diffusion, a generative framework, learns from cell-type-specific sequences to design new regulatory elements, validated with reporter assays and by editing sequences directly in the native genome.
",
