Conventional simulation emphasizes idealized systems: perfect crystal structures, static snapshots, vacuum environments. Yet the functional properties of foundational technologies (catalysts, semiconductors, drugs, batteries) are governed by precisely the features these methods cannot capture: defects, interfaces, disorder, and dynamics operating across multiple length and time scales. This RFP asks whether AI can now close that gap by predicting such phenomena more accurately, or across multiple length or time scales.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThis RFP is for you if:\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>You are developing AI methods to predict non-idealities (defects, interfaces, disorder, dynamics) and/or multi-scale phenomena in technologically relevant materials or molecules</li>\r\n\t<li>You have a specific materials or molecular system in mind where conventional simulation underperforms</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Funding & Duration: </strong>Track 1 - Up to $100K for 6-12 months<br>\r\n Track 2 - Up to $500K for 12-18 months<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Eligibility:</strong> Schmidt sciences invites individual researchers, research teams, research institutions, and multi-institution collaborations across universities, national laboratories, institutes, and non-profit research organizations. They are open globally and encourage collaborations across geographic boundaries. Fellows must demonstrate that the fellowship will take place in a new discipline, distinct from their current field of study. In order to receive the fellowship, fellows must be approved by their institution for a full year of leave.
