            "description": "<p>Hosted by Solange Denervaud, CIBM Flagship Project Officer, we are pleased  to invite you to attend the CIBM Visitors Talk on April 24th at 13:00 CEST by Mary Helen Immordino-Yang from the University of Southern California who will be sharing on “Longitudinal neurodevelopmental correlates of mid-adolescents’ psychosocial processing: A path to young adult wellbeing?”.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Abstract</strong><br>\r\nCombining open-ended interviews (outside the scanner) with structural, trial-by-trial, and resting-state functional MRI neuroimaging, we examined real-time functional neural dynamics underlying diverse urban mid-adolescents’ cognitive and emotional engagement with compelling social stories at two time-points, two years apart. We found that the patterns of longitudinal change in neural network dynamics predicted psychosocial outcomes five years later in young adulthood.<br>\r\nWe found that “transcendent thinking” – seeing situations not just in terms of X happened to person A, which makes me feel thusly, but in terms of the larger societal and contextual forces that shaped how Person A was treated and how Person A reacted, the broader implications and lessons one can draw from that situation, and the larger issues it exemplifies or reveals—correlated with a particular set of neural activity dynamics and predicted future structural and functional neural development across the subsequent two years, controlling for the starting state of neural development, and independent of IQ and SES. Transcendent thinking also countered negative effects of exposure to community violence on structural brain development.<br>\r\nThe neural development predicted by transcendent thinking (the changes in the brain across the 2-year period) in turn predicted young adult identity strength, self-liking, relationship satisfaction, and achievement 5 years later.<br>\r\nThese findings reveal a novel predictor of neural development across mid-adolescence, and underscore the active role adolescents play in their own brain development through the meaning they make of the social world. Implications for secondary education and pedagogy will be discussed.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n </p>",

            "description": "<p>BRIDGE is a joint programme conducted by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and Innosuisse, the Swiss Innovation Agency. It offers new funding opportunities at the intersection of basic research and science-based innovation, thereby supplementing the funding activities of the two organizations.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>BRIDGE Discovery</strong> is aimed at experienced researchers who wish to realise a technological innovation with great social or economic impact. They can submit a proposal on their own or as part of a consortium of up to three applicants. The project must be characterised by scientific excellence and a clear vision of a future application.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nBRIDGE Discovery funds projects for up to 4 years. During the workshop, we will review and explain the main steps of a machine learning-based computer vision project, from problem definition to image acquisition, annotation, training, validation, and inference. We will illustrate these steps in a practical way, by building a real computer vision application together until we can run it live on a camera. Along the way, we will discuss important concepts (data drift, overfitting, data augmentation) and observe how they manifest themselves in practice. We will also share tips and tricks to help you tackle your own computer vision challenges.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Prerequisites:</strong><br>\r\nBasic familiarity with Python, image analysis, and machine learning concepts is desirable, but not strictly necessary.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Level:</strong> <br>\r\nBeginner / Intermediate<br>\r\n ",

            "description": "<strong>A Lola and John Grace Distinguished Lecture in Cancer Research</strong>\r\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-98cefd8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\">\r\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"><br>\r\nSarah Teichmann completed her PhD at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK, and was a Beit Memorial Fellow at University College London. She established her research group at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in 2001, where her main discoveries included the finding that protein assembly pathways are stereotypical and conserved. In 2013, she transitioned to the Wellcome Genome Campus, where she became the first and, to date, the only faculty member appointed across both the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute and the Wellcome Sanger Institute. In 2016, she was appointed as the Head of the Cellular Genetics programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and co-founded the Human Cell Atlas initiative. From April 2024, she was appointed chair in Stem Cell Medicine at the University of Cambridge, within the Department of Medicine and the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute. Additionally, Sarah dedicates part of her time to GlaxoSmithKline and to EnsoCell Therapeutics, the startup company she co-founded. The Teichmann lab focuses on developing and applying cell atlas technologies to understand human tissue architecture, particularly examining how cellular diversity is generated in the immune system and during development.</div>\r\n</div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e552a16 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\">\r\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"> </div>\r\n</div>",
