cinq architectes ° cinq pays ° trois projets, public conférences
For this series of lectures, 5 different architects from 5 different European countries were asked to give an insight into their work practice. Each office will present 3 projects in detail from the first sketch to the final construction plans. One of the presented projects will be the office’s very first building, which will help answer the question of how to start an architectural office. The other two projects will demonstrate the individual offices’ different signatures and the different strategies they pursue to realize architectural ideas in the specific local context. The lectures will illustrate an individual practical approach to architecture and provide an overview of the contemporary architectural trends in Europe.
Volker Staab
Staab Architekten, Berlin
Staab Architekten was founded in 1991 when Volker Staab won the competition for the New Museum in Nuremberg. He is fascinated by complex building tasks and the challenge posed by contradictory requirements, such as the urban context, the building program or conservation restrictions, from which he then develops a multi-layered yet self-explanatory architecture. His works include the Museum Georg Schäfer, Schweinfurt (2000), the Service Center Theresienwiese, Munich (2004), the Refurbishment of the Albertinum Dresden (2010) and the Visitors’ Center for the Hercules Monument, Kassel (2011).
