INFORMAL SEMINAR
Inflation driven by the Standard model Higgs field requires a large value of its non-minimal coupling to gravity. This leads to a well-known unitarity problem that arises already at the energy scales corresponding to inflation. In this talk, I show that an addition of R^2 term to the action allows solving this problem rising the cutoff scale up to the Planck scale. In this scenario, an additional degree of freedom coming from the gravity also plays the role in inflation leading to the curved trajectory of the inflaton. Also, it can stabilize the Higgs potential at large field values. Finally, I discuss the inflationary dynamics and predictions for the Higgs and Higgs-dilaton inflation with the R^2 term.
