Aim: The goal of the Synthetic Plants programme is to establish synthetic genetic units in crop plants. Plants with fully synthetic genomes could deliver an abundance of products and services sustainably, from food to materials, medicine, and beyond.
The programme is split into five technical areas (TAs), each with its own distinct objectives. This call focuses on Phase One which consists of work in TA1 and TA2. Teams from Phase One who have completed work on TA1 will be given the opportunity to work on at least one of the remaining three TAs (see programme structure here, p.8):

- Social and Ethical (TA2): Addresses the social and ethical considerations surrounding synthetic plant technologies, ensuring responsible

Eligibility:
- Applications from across the R&D ecosystem, including individuals, universities, research institutions, small, medium and large companies, charities and public sector research organisations are welcomed
- Overseas applicants are advised that ARIA's primary focus will be on funding those who are based in the UK or those willing to conduct all or part of the project from the UK. However, funding will be available to applicants outside the UK if ARIA believes the proposed project can significantly benefit the UK (examples of benefit listed here, p.20)
