Event details

Date 20.03.2025
Category Call for proposal
Aim: ASAP CRN's Scientific Track funding is an open competitive funding opportunity for the research community to provide additional capital to spur discovery for PD research. For this call, applications that focus on dissecting the mechanisms that contribute to PD heterogeneity will be considered in six key focus areas:
  • Examining PD in the context of ageing.
  • Understanding how co-pathologies can influence PD pathogenesis and progression.
  • Role of known environmental risk factors in contributing to disease pathogenesis.
  • Understanding the circuit biology driving clinical symptom presentation (with an emphasis on non-motor symptoms).
  • Role of clearance mechanisms in PD.
  • Identification of factors influencing seeding in the alpha-synuclein seeding amplification assay.
Proposals across the six themes must have a tie to human biology, meaning that the project must demonstrate the relevance of biological discoveries to human PD, which can be demonstrated through:
  • Generation of disease biology hypotheses using human data (eg genetic, clinical, biomarkers);
  • Validation assessment of biological/mechanistic hypotheses in human biospecimens; and/or
  • Leveraging human PD relevant models to improve translatability of biological hypotheses.
Funding: max. $3,000,000/year

Duration: 3 years

Eligibility: Applications are open to research teams, which are required to be multidisciplinary and multi-institutional. Applicants can be based in any country. The ‘Core Leadership’ for each team should consist of at least one early career investigator in the position of Co-I, and at least two different research disciplines represented on each Team. All Core Leadership must hold a doctorate, such as a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree.

How to Apply: PIs should submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) on the foundation’s online platform here. The LOI requirements can be found here.

Deadline for Letter of Intent: 20 March 2025
