The SNSF is participating in the Amazon +10 call coordinated by Brazil that aims to support scientific projects within the Legal Amazon and is open to researchers from all disciplines.
The call aims to support multidisciplinary scientific expeditions focusing on a better understanding of the nature-society interactions for the sustainable and inclusive development of the Legal Amazon (Amazonas, Acre, Rondônia, Roraima, Pará, Maranhão, Amapá, Tocantins and Mato Grosso). Teams should propose the collection of data, biological and mineral specimens, and pieces of native and popular culture (present and past), always focusing on one or more of the priority axes described below:

The call aims to support multidisciplinary scientific expeditions focusing on a better understanding of the nature-society interactions for the sustainable and inclusive development of the Legal Amazon (Amazonas, Acre, Rondônia, Roraima, Pará, Maranhão, Amapá, Tocantins and Mato Grosso). Teams should propose the collection of data, biological and mineral specimens, and pieces of native and popular culture (present and past), always focusing on one or more of the priority axes described below:
- Understanding habitats and their species;
- Study of biodiversity as a source of livelihood and potential for bioeconomy;
- Preservation and recovery of natural capital;
- Studies of the material and immaterial heritage of ancestral, indigenous and traditional people and their associated knowledge, ethnographies;
- Documentation and preservation of Amazonian indigenous languages and associated knowledge systems;
- Studies on sustainable use of natural resources, institutional arrangements for conservation, and territorial dynamics of indigenous and traditional people;
- Integration of field data with emerging technologies.
- Researchers from all disciplines are invited to submit applications if their project corresponds to one of the above-mentioned subject areas. The selection process will be aimed at achieving a balance between the priority areas.
Collaboration composition:
- Each proposal must have principal investigators from at least two Brazilian states that have joined this call, one of whom must be linked to higher education and/or research institutions based in the states of the Legal Amazon.
- The latter will act as coordinator in advance and will be responsible for the submission.
- The inclusion of an international partner is possible but not mandatory.
- The project must also include at least one PIQCT (Indigenous Peoples, Quilombolas and Traditional Communities) member who holds traditional knowledge related to the territory to be studied.
