Non-invasive transcranial brain stimulation (NTBS) techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial electrical current stimulation (TCS) are important interventional tools to modify intrinsic brain activity. The local NTBS effects may spread to connected brain regions via cortico-cortical and cortico-subcortical pathways. The network effects of NTBS can be traced with several brain mapping techniques, providing unique insights into the functional interactions between distinct nodes of the targeted brain network. In my lecture, I will provide some illustrative examples how brain connectivity can be delineated with a combined NTBS-neuroimaging approach. I also point out possible pitfalls which should be avoided when planning NTBS-based connectivity studies.
