PHD FELLOWSHIPS
The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards PhD fellowships to outstanding junior scientists who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory in Europe (please read What we do and do not fund).
  • Who can apply:
    • Natural scientists who have obtained their diploma, MSc, BSc, or equivalent within 4 months from the call deadline OR physicians, veterinary surgeons and pharmacists who have passed their state examinations.
    • The applicant cannot have been working on his/her project for more than 6 months upon submission of the application.
    • 1 applicant per laboratory.
  • Duration: 2 years, renewable for 1 year.
  • Eligible costs: monthly stipend (EUR 3’400 per month), minor research-related costs (EUR 150 per months), travel allowance (to attend one conference per year), spouse and child allowance (if applicable). Does NOT cover: tuition, bench fees and overheads.

TRAVEL GRANTS
The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds awards Travel Grants to junior researchers who are currently conducting an experimental project in basic biomedical research and wish to pursue a short-term research stay or attend a practical course in Europe.
  • Who can apply:
    • PhD students or medical students pursuing an experimental doctoral thesis;
    • who are pursuing a particular research project;
    • Graduates from abroad who have applied for a PhD project.
  • up to 3 months.
  • Eligible costs: flat rate for travel, lodging and course fees. Does NOT cover research-related costs.
