Aim:  The CZI Neurodegeneration Challenge Network has three goals: (1) to make fundamental advances toward understanding neurodegeneration; (2) to bring new ideas and talent to the field of neurodegeneration; and (3) to encourage a new type of interdisciplinary collaborative research involving scientists, clinicians and engineers. To this end, the network is launching the second call of the CZI Ben Barres Early Career Acceleration Awards, supporting early career academic investigators, with an emphasis on those who are new to the field of neurodegeneration. The goal is to empower investigators to pursue bold ideas and to take risks within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Applicants with experience in disciplines outside of biomedicine that would bring
new technology, resources, or intellectual frameworks to the field are strongly
encouraged.
 
Funding:       $1.2M

Duration:      4 years

Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent, and must currently hold their first independent faculty position. This position should have been held for a minimum of two years and less than six years (i.e., commenced between 04/2017 and 04/2021; exemptions are available for family and medical leave).

How to Apply: The three-step review process begins with a Letter of Intent, which must include a research statement, a Biosketch, and an institutional approval form.  Please contact the Research Office for this assistance with the institutional approval form. LOI decisions will be announced by 09 May, and full applications will be due by 13 June. Full applications should must also include professional references, a budget, and a budget justification. The budget should include 15% overhead charges; please contact the Research Office with any questions. Selected applicants will be invited for virtual interviews between 15-17 August. Final notifications will be sent in October.
