There are three major brands of homotopy calculus: Goodwillie calculus (functor calculus), Weiss calculus (orthogonal calculus) and Goodwillie-Weiss calculus (embedding calculus). The first two are much closer to each other than to the third, for example their homogeneous functors are both classified in terms of spectra with an action of a group. In particular, you can always deloop homogeneous functors in these two cases. In this talk I will report on joint work with Rosona Eldred on formalising the long-known comparison of these two theories and making sense of the folk result: n-excisive implies n-polynomial.
