Multimode optical fibers are enjoying renewed attention, enhanced by recent advances in spatiotemporal complex nonlinear optics. Especially with the parabolic profile of their refractive index, graded-index multimode fibers provide novel features by encouraging intermodal interactions. In recent years several fundamental and applied studies are reported from single-pass nonlinear dynamics to spatiotemporally mode-locked laser cavities. In this talk, I will be discussing controlling single-pass multimode nonlinear interactions with machine learning approach and novel pulse-beam shaping dynamics in mode-locked multimode fiber lasers to achieve ultrashort pulses with near-Gaussian beam quality.
