Modelling Emerging Mobility Concepts: Mobility as a Service and Smart Parking
The plurality of mobility related options is increasing with a fast pace. Emerging mobility concepts, such as Mobility as a Service and other technology-enabled application are receiving attention from the scientific community, as they disrupt or are expected to disrupt transportation. This seminar explores modelling of emerging mobility concepts that fall under the Mobility as a Service umbrella, focusing on two cases: a) multimodal journey planning and b) parking reservation systems. For the first case, a journey planning modelling framework is presented including the formulation of a dynamic, multimodal and multi-criteria journey planner for MaaS applications, for a time-dependent multimodal and multi-attribute supernetwork model. Two novel label-setting and label-correcting approaches are introduced to generate both exact and heuristic Pareto MaaS journeys. For the second case, a parking-reservation system is investigated, on the premises of a stochastic user equilibrium (SUE) traffic assignment for habitual parking users that integrates the notion of equilibrated parking search routes. Implications related to decarbonisation and transport efficiency are discussed.
Short bio:
Emmanouil (Manos) Chaniotakis is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at MaaSLab, UCL Energy Institute, University College London (UCL), United Kingdom. He holds a diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), an MSc degree in Transportation Infrastructure and Logistics from Delft University of Technology (TUDelft), and a PhD from Technical University of Munich (TUM). Manos’ research focuses on modelling and simulation of transportation systems, demand modelling, and decarbonisation in Transportation. He has been involved in various European and national projects. He has authored more than 30 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and books. He is a member of several professional and scientific organizations and a frequent reviewer for many scientific journals and conferences.
