Speaker Eik Frenzel and Yves Dreier. Graduates in architecture from ETH in Zurich and TU in Dresden, Yves Dreier and Eik Frenzel founded their practice Dreier Frenzel Architecture + Communication office in 2008. In the last 15 years their professional work embodies the idea of dialogue and exchange to develop a message adapted to the diversity of the contemporary world. Their activity goes beyond the simple desire to build and is enriched by experimental and theoretical approaches. Further they have had the opportunity to teach at several institutions and above all as visiting professors at EPFL. Motivated by a desire for abundant interdisciplinary collaborations, their work is part of a broader societal context. Their deep understanding of architecture as a field of research and experimentation has led to prototypical and iconic realizations of numerous sustainable projects. Their work is internationally recognized and awarded such as: Deutscher Bauweltpreis in 2009, the Swiss Art Awards in 2016 and the FVPC Building Culture Prize in 2020.

Architecture as a mirror of society constantly adapts to social, climatic, economic and political conditions. However, in the current challenge of climate change, lack of resources and decarbonization, a proactive approach to building technology is more necessary than ever. For Yves Dreier and Eik Frenzel architectural experimentation is the driving force behind all theoretical and practical considerations and leads to ever new, innovative and tailormade solutions. Through their academic and practical work, they promote a broad knowledge about sustainable construction, materials and technology as a basis for the creative building design. Not the examination of individual materials and their characteristics but rather the multiple interactions of construction elements assembled in a building envelope stand in the focus of their attention. Particularly the vast real estate park of existing buildings from the 50s until the 90s requires urgently new strategies for their architectural renovation. The experimental composition of bio sourced materials, overlaid with requirements of structure, building physics and construction transforms sustainable concepts into new tectonics.
