In this talk we will cover three areas of ongoing research in our team at Rutgers University. The first topic deals with management of asset networks and takes a different perspective by using value-based optimization and building a feedback mechanism between the underlying system dynamics and the decision making process. The methodology was initially intended for transportation infrastructure investment and maintenance. Extensions to other areas including production systems will also be discussed. The second topic will deal with energy efficient industrial and production systems. We will present a computational and metering infrastructure that can support energy efficiency from individual processes to supply chains. We will also discuss our preliminary concepts on how one can harvest process variability for energy efficiency. Finally, the last part of the talk will briefly describe our ongoing work on distributed micro-grids and the development of intelligent operational and control under uncertainties due to demand and renewable sources.
