Bio
Rachid Cherkaoui (IEEE SM’07) received his Master’s degree and PhD in Electrical engineering in 1983 and 1992 respectively, both from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). From 1983 to 2009, he was a research assistant and then senior lecturer and researcher at the Power Systems Laboratory at EPFL. From 2009 to 2024, he was a senior scientist and headed the Power Systems group at EPFL. His research activities focused on analysis and control for secure, reliable and economical operation of power systems in different contexts, including the 2050 energy transition in Switzerland and the electricity market deregulation. He is author/co-author of more than 200 scientific publications, has supervised/co-supervised 27 doctoral theses and about 100 master’s theses. He was a member of the technical committee of various international conferences in power systems, a member of working groups at CIGRE and a representative of Suisse Romande at the Swiss chapter of the IEEE.
