Every year, the International Prizes of the Jacques Rougerie Foundation Sea and Space Generation - Institut de France reward bold and visionary architects, designers, engineers and urban planners from all over the world who imagine the habitats of the future related to the Ocean or to Space.

You are willing to commit yourself by proposing innovative bio-inspired projects in the Oceans, in Space or on the Littoral coasts. You are firmly committed toward a sustainable and resilient future. You are acutely aware of the major climate changes. Your imagination on the evolution of the lifestyles in our societies is overflowing and you wish to build differently for the common good respecting the biodiversity.

This International Competition in Architecture calls for bioinspired, multidisciplinary architectural projects in 3 categories:

  1. « Innovation and Architecture for the Sea »
        A Grand Prix Award: € 7’500
        A “Focus” Award “The Underwater Village”: € 2’500
 
  1. « Innovation and Architecture for Space »
        A Grand Prix Award: € 7’500
        A “Focus” Award “The Lunar Village”: € 2’500  
 
  1. « Innovation and Architecture related to the Sea Level Rise»
        A Grand Prix Award: € 7’500  
        A “Focus” Award “The African Coastline”: € 2’500 

These architectural projects based on bio-mimicry and on emerging progress, will concentrate on a prospective vision and cross skills (science, sociology, climatology, geography, etc.) - and will likely have to respond to the major challenges of sustainable development with greater industrial and technical responsibility.

The architectural concepts of the projects will be evaluated in accordance with the following 8 criteria:
  • Biomimicry and bio-inspiration
  • Architectural design quality
  • Innovation & technics
  • Place of human being in the project
  • Sustainable development
  • Graphic design quality
  • Respect of the competition rules
  • Respect of the theme

Who can apply:
  • Students, researchers, professionals such as architects, designers, engineers and urban planners, conceivers, artists etc., anywhere in the world.
  • The prizes are awarded to individual candidates or to teams, disregarding their age and nationality.
  • The candidates are advised to set up multidisciplinary teams.

Deadline for phase 1: 30 September 2020 at 11:59 PM GMT +1 France
Deadline for phase 2: 21 October 2020 at 11:59 PM GMT +1 France (upon invitation on 7 October 2020)
Decision: November 2020
