Today, many researchers and clinicians suggest that intensive therapy augmented with electrical stimulation promotes reorganization of central nervous system after injury or disease of the central nervous system. We developed neural prosthesis that uses life-like control to activate paretic or paralyzed body parts and provide otherwise missing function in individuals with central nervous system lesion. The neural prosthesis applies surface electrodes and activates sensory and motor nerves; thereby, provide new conditions that likely contribute to the process of the training of the brain. This treatment is most efficient in individuals if applied in the acute phase of disability. The FET also prevents atrophy of the sensory-motor systems, and decreases the development of compensatory control strategies. Technical aspects of the FET system and the effects that have been documented in randomized clinical trials in hemiplegics while recovering the walking will be described.
